    Horsepower..???

Yeah I measured the other gearbox in every way and it’s absolutely identical I just don’t know what the deal is what I’m going to end up doing is putting a shim between the gearbox and the underside of the bed and just bringing it down enough to travel all the way towards the headstock without...

    Horsepower..???

Well it all started when I saw the machine on craigslist and what the guy did like so many others out there is slapped another paint job on top of the 16 other paint jobs and played it off as if he rebuilt the machine and when it got here the first thing I did was fire it up and try to shift...

    Horsepower..???

When the carriage is down near the tailstock I can spin everything with two fingers and not have a problem at all when I move the carriage to the headstock halfway there it will start to seize up and by the time it’s down at the table stock it isn’t moving at all so it can’t be the bracket at...

    Horsepower..???

Well I appreciate you offering but yes you’re right 150 miles is too far.. well I have figured out is that the lead screw coming out of the gearbox is obviously not at the same level as it is where it goes into the lead screw bracket on the far right because the gearbox only starts to jam up...

    Horsepower..???

When I pulled the motor out I spun it by hand and the bearings seem to be fine and when there’s power to it it seemed to be OK.. I mean it sounded quiet ,,smooth,, it just seemed OK .. i have no idea if it’s just not pushing 3/4 of a horsepower anymore.. is there any way to tell if the motor is...

    South Bend Single Tumblr gearbox

I recently just rebuild a 1947 heavy 10 and now that I’m giving it a test run with the gearbox engaged without the chuck on the spindle things seem to run smooth but once I put the three jaw chuck on everything bogs down to barely spinning.. I have the proper bearing clearance and am able to...

I don’t know... there is no settings on this knob that says anything.. it just has two belts in the back end up at the top.. Heavy 10 collet attachment

Then again I’m not good enough to make something like that and cut those fine threads and have it actually fit on a nicely....You would think that this would be a common problem for many South Bend users that can’t find the exact length drawbar.. you would think that this would be a common...

    Heavy 10 collet attachment

Its 15 3/16” Long... i still think I might be able to take the collar that butts up to the back of the spindle the collar that Spins near the hand wheel and shorten it so more of the tube go into the spindle And catch the threads on the collet....? I think that would be better than lengthening...

    Heavy 10 collet attachment

Actually it’s a collar like a sleeve that has a hole in it for oil and it spins allowing the drawbar to rotate while still holding the pressure and it’s about an inch and a half in length,,,I wonder if that could be modified and cut down shorter...?? it seems like this whole drawbar comes apart...
