10 EE Gearbox and New Motor Adapter Plate

Thanks. I will look around. I should have asked here before I bought the one I have. :(

10 EE Gearbox and New Motor Adapter Plate

I was going to rebuild my motor/generator set, but the motor shop I took them to said they were too far gone and did not recommend rebuilding them. So I will use a new AC motor and VFD. I have read some threads already existing in this forum, but I have not seen exactly what I plan to do. So...

    Need Motor-Generator for 1945 10ee

Wow, that is actually a brilliant idea, I wish I had thought of it. Thanks.

    Need Motor-Generator for 1945 10ee

Thanks for the suggestion. I asked about that, and he said the connection points of the segments were fine, but there was evidence that it got hot and so was damaged somewhere in the windings. And now, a company that quoted a machine re-wind to him, stripped out the windings and then decided...

    Need Motor-Generator for 1945 10ee

I am attempting to get an old 10ee running. In the process I have removed the motors to replace the bearings and do a general refresh of commutator, brushes, etc. A motor shop checked out the AC motor of the motor-generator and 6 segments of the commutator are dead. I can get it rewound but...

    Starting up an old EE

I pulled the AC motor to address the bearings, commutator, brushes, etc. I was surprised to see the motor plate says it is 50 Hz. I removed a grease fitting and hit it with the grease gun to push out whatever was in there. Sure enough, it was quite dry and solid.

    Starting up an old EE

That sounds like a good thing to do. Is spindle reassembly pretty straightforward, or is it a critical and complicated setup process? I would think replacing the spindle bearings at this point would make any concern about present condition and runout a non-issue? Correct? [I have not...

    Starting up an old EE

It looks like the peeling paint is from age, seasonal thermal excursions in a garage, poor adhesion, etc, and not pressure washing. There is some surface rust from humidity and condensation but it seems to be cleaning up well without much trouble or any damage. Thanks for the input.

Good point on the bearings, I'll have to check them. I suppose that means motor bearings too. :( Thanks.

    Starting up an old EE

I have a Monarch 10EE that has not been run in at least 30 years. It has been in the family that long, stored in a garage. I believe it was taken out of service just before the family acquired it. I don't know much about it's use history, but it looks to be in fairly good shape. I want to...

Is a stone or file better for face of arbor flange?

You are correct, the fence is an Oliver off my other saw. The Greenlee fence does not have the micro-adjust so the Oliver worked better for this job.

Is a stone or file better for face of arbor flange?

I checked the flange with a straight edge today and cannot see evidence of being dished or convex. I put a light behind the straight edge and still can't see any error. So whatever it is, I think it will be close enough for me. I did clean it up some more, dressing the grinding wheel and then...

Is a stone or file better for face of arbor flange?

Since flange runout was my original complaint, I decided to see if I could address that with a couple things suggested here. I made a grinder set-up on the micrometer fence from my other saw, got things square and aligned where they needed to be, and used the saw lift/lower hand crank to feed...

Is a stone or file better for face of arbor flange?

I pushed and pulled pretty hard by hand and could get somewhere between 0.001" - 0.002" movement on the arbor. The indicator tip was between my hand and the bearing. Seems a bit more than what I would expect. Another guy tried too and couldn't get any movement, but I put all my might into it...

Is a stone or file better for face of arbor flange?

Good idea. Maybe somebody in their customer support or technical would know how the Greenlees were put together.

Is a stone or file better for face of arbor flange?

I assumed the flange was pressed on but I cannot be sure. It looks like somebody may have butchered the back side of it at some point in time too - maybe trying to remove it ???
