My CNC tool organization solution. (Also shop walkthrough and other things)
It pays for the machines. But not hugely. I had some degree of profit last year. This year will be negative (or low profit) due to machine purchase. Next year no new machine so hopefully profit.- xnewmanx

Nope. Best I’ve ever done is a manual pallet jack borrowed from work. Otherwise all arm action. I meant more about one man shop as it related to coming back online from full shutdown. Usually the benches have some sort of WIP.- xnewmanx

Valid questions. As for WIP. I timed the arrival of my machine to coincide with completing certain projects. I did a few small things in the interim, but it's just me in there, so I finished up projects, got everything straightened up and then brought the machine in and got everything set up...- xnewmanx

I only used it a few times because my haas was my only machine for a long time and I couldn't afford the time to rip out all the vises and set up the TRT. It's full time duty is now 5 axis work but I haven't gotten to it yet. I just got the DNM dialed in and ready to run.- xnewmanx

Honestly, I was bracing for being told it was the stupidest thing anyone's ever seen hence why I never posted about it. I had something similar with my haas, just never had the forethought to arrange the tools in groups or to make the "board"- xnewmanx

I just use them to be able to tell at a glance what tools are in the machine. The tags go on the tools when they're in the rack. I built out my tool library in cam where tools 1-50 are reserved for square EMs, 51-100 are radius, etc. The DNM can store 400 offsets, it'll be a long time before I...- xnewmanx

Why do all my test indicators go to shit?
Just a quick update to this: After disassembling and cleaning it works 100% (regardless of if it is oriented 90 degrees to the probe or not). There's no stickiness, and the dial doesn't hang at all. I will change the way that I use the indicator, but I doing it that way because when I set up...- xnewmanx

A pop off could be an option but typically I have the hose in hand before I even turn the coolant on so it’s only deadhead for seconds, if at all.- xnewmanx

Why do all my test indicators go to shit?
I think I'm not doing enough to keep them clean, despite it being in my toolbox. I will put them in a bag in my toolbox. I didn't actually disassemble the dial assembly, just removed the two screws that hold it to the body.- xnewmanx

Why do all my test indicators go to shit?
Yeah. I assumed it was preloaded so I watched very carefully when I removed the indicator and it LOOKED like two full rotations. I was able to preload it by two revolutions and get it reassembled to read zero at rest after a couple tries. I may be a dumbass when it comes to cnc stuff, but I'm...- xnewmanx
