    Spline help!

I'm planning on turning down the area between the taper and the bearing journal (where the seal rides) and building it up with weld then turning it back down to size. Same process on the spline end except I will cut the splines on the mill after I get the OD to size. The worm does not show...

    Spline help!

You guys are correct that this Caterpillar No. 12 grader had mechanical blade controls... they are known as "knuckle busters" because if you don't engage a blade control lever with gusto... the lever will kick back or forward and will get ya! My grader has some hydraulic controls for the...

    Spline help!

As you can see from the photograph, I need to make some new splines on this shaft. The spline has 11 teeth and has an outside diameter of 0.748". I think that this is an involute spline and my calculation gives me a diametral pitch of 17 rounded down. I can't find an involute cutter with 17...

    Cushman 4 Jaw Disassembly

Thanks for the help! After reading your posts and looking at the chuck more closely I understand that the retainers (Cushman calls them "Thrust Bearings") are in two pieces longitudinally and sandwich the operating screw and are pressed into the chuck. The retainer and operating screw can be...

    Cushman 4 Jaw Disassembly

Does the two piece retainer press out of the back of the chuck from the front side or do you "dig" them out from the back of the chuck. I assume you mean that the thrust bearing is under the retainers? Thanks. Kevin

    Cushman 4 Jaw Disassembly

I have a 12" Cushman 4 jaw chuck. There are retainers that hold the operating screws in place and I think that they are called "Thrust Bearings". They extend from the operating screws to the back of the chuck. These thrust bearings must be removed to remove the operating screws. In the...

    LeBlond servo shift power

I have a LeBlond Servo Shift and I strongly recommend the rotary phase converter over the VFD. Be aware that the Servo will not shift if the incoming power leads are reversed. Simply reverse two of the incoming lines and test again. After you have the unit powered, troubleshooting the Servo...

    Famco Arbor Press Disassembly

If your press were mine, I would fill the voids in the casting with body filler, sand, and paint. That's what I did with mine. These castings are beasts and trying to weld them to fill the voids is unnecessary; IMO
