    Hammer help

good stuff, especially the rectal spanner! I don't have any idea why he hasn't looked and found the one piece designs like pictured. They look a lot lighter than what he handed me. I'll see him again on monday Driven vs pushed. Yes he says he can often push them but when he can't, out comes the...

Off Machining Topic: Credit Card Application/Credit Score

Credit scoring is complete crap. Especially when it's used for all kinds of stuff unrelated to lending like cell phones, electric service and how much you pay for home and auto insurance. Then there is all the societal pressure to have a "good score". "safe inventments" in the 2003 didn't pay...

    Hammer help

A doctor has asked if I can make him a hammer. Piece of cake right? The issue they have with the designs available is the connection/seam between the handle and the head. They have to disassemble these to get the "biologic materials" out of that crack before putting them in the sterilzer. Then...

Off Machining Topic: Credit Card Application/Credit Score

The whole credit rating is a scam meant to keep people in chains. 60+ years and I "borrowed" money once. I was 40 and bought a GM SUV because they offered 0% financing. They turned me down. Not because of bad credit but because I did not exist in the credit scoring systems. I showed them my...

    Grooving a cam shaft

an unrequired groove! Now we are way outside my wheelhouse. I've built some engines but am not an engine builder. The man that brought this in is. This is going to be a case of doing what I'm asked, but not until tomorrow. haha I appreciate all the tips and the schooling. Never stop learning!

    Grooving a cam shaft

The bushing that came in the kit is pretty thin and couldn't get a fraction of this groove. I don't know how much fluid this groove is expected to pass but it must be a bunch as large as it is. Another problem with what he got is the original bushing has 3 holes, 1 in and 2 out. What was...

    Grooving a cam shaft

This is a little outa my normal stuff. A guy waited 6 months for this cam and it came without the oil groove. I figure I'll try and cut it with a carbide grooving tool. Any concerns there or would you suggest I order a ceramic tool?

    OT: home backup power generators

This is a ?fun? topic no matter the forum. We have two houses and 3600sf shop. Most long outages are in the winter during the arctic "hurricanes". We did have an extended outage in summer from a earthquake a few years ago. We had a 55kw multi-fuel genny w/Minneapolis-Moline prime mover. It was a...

    OT: home backup power generators

That's not accurate. Most "gas" sold as propane has a large percentage of butane. The further south you go the more butane. Butane stops flowing somewhere around 0f. We BBQ throughout the winter, well into the negative temps and any butane means no BBQ.

    OT_ LED bulb issues

I have about 70 of the standard style bulbs in my shop. Replaced the HO 8' fluorescents. I used the 60 watt equililant daylight bulbs from REIT. They put out much more and better light. They also work in the cold. They use about 30% of the electric the HOs used. Unfortunately the electric...

OT: This is about flushing a radiator with white vinegar and distilled water. Soak over night.

CAT used to package and sell cooling system flush chemicals. The stuffs "outlawed" now. One part was basically oxalic acid and the second part a neutralizing agent like a borax soap. We still "make" our own using OA from the big box store. It's packaged as wood bleach. Phosphoric acid can also...

Shipping charges .... Did they really go to insane levels ???

this is due to the UPU, Universal Postal Union. It was created something like 100 years ago and said the USPS has to accept stuff shipped to the USA at the same rate a local would pay to ship across town. In other words the USPS had to charge the same price for something sent to the USA from...

    Obsolete pins & bushings

A pile of parts was dropped off yesterday. Dirty, greasy flippin parts. People don't listen. I don't work on greasy stuff anymore and they must pay for me to clean them when dropped here dirty! The housings aren't bushed and the castings are a mess. This whole post should be moved to a heavy...

    Obsolete pins & bushings

I need to make some steering pins and bushings for an old obsolete Gradall 534B. Replacement parts are not available. This will be the last repair to the steering. Anything done will last longer than the rest of the machine. The pins look to be standard sizes, 1" to 1.5" diameters. Figure I'll...
