There is a chuck on the machine, what do you mean by "chuck cover" ?
I am referring to the gap between the spindle shaft and the housing, just behind the chuck/spindle-nose area. I've always heard to "mind the spindle gap" so you aren't blowing coolant directly on it.
I'm just wondering if...
I'm getting curious, is using live tooling with coolant a bad idea? I mean, should I be covering up my spindle gap somehow?
The spindle sitting stationary, with a live tool block milling away and blasting coolant, some of which is bound to end up at the spindle gap, that surely can't be good for...
New control features enable you to be more competitive, that's one of the major selling points of buying a new machine in the first place.
I suspect you will see that a decade newer machine has some advantages that maybe aren't obvious right now.
I have only figured out you can change the G54 Z zero with some parameter address and it caused some problems when I first tried it.
I think this G52 solution is exactly what I was looking for. This job will run basically unattended now for hours.
I would like to use parentheses to ensure the calculation (#3*#1) is performed before the function (G52) is called with an argument, but they indicate a comment in Gcode as far as I know.
edit, I was also assuming the order of operations would dictate the multiplication would be resolved before...
I think I have a syntax error trying to loop a program. It is turning and milling on a 5" diameter bar, it doesn't pull the bar so I want to get 3 or 5 parts parted off per program run. Hoping to use G52 to update the work offset by computing the stepover per iteration.

Currently window shopping a VMX30U (not the newer VMX30Ui)5-axis and wondering how they compare to say, a Haas UMC.
Will it remain accurate over say 50 revolutions of the rotary axis? What kind of accuracy potential does a 10 year old 5-axis have really?
Okay, near-side makes perfect sense there is a center hole in the piece. So it's saying to only drill through one side.
I've already asked the customer for clarification, but it's nice to have some other opinions while I'm waiting to hear back.
My SL-25SY is the best investment I've made yet. Came with lots of live tool blocks and tooling. Can get a DMG Mori service tech out for a fee.
Questions about things like "what is the thread spec on these hydraulic hoses?" they have no idea about, but they can help me align the live tool drive...
machine is a '98 Mori Seiki SL-25SY/1000, I haven't seen anything like that but I will keep an eye out. There is half a megabyte of memory for each of the "turrets", it's a pretty well-optioned machine with live tools, etc. so I would imagine it has the ability to drip feed.
Wow lots of Fanuc 16 users. Sorry to hijack the thread but is there an easy way to drip feed instead of put program on control? I assume it is somewhat similar, but my Fanuc 16T doesn't have "tape mode" labeled on any of the switches.
NASTYZEN if what you're using to send the program has a...
