    Almond Mfg. Drill Chuck

Good morning all.... I'd never heard of Almond Mfg. drill chucks. I'm looking to get pretty much anything for my SB 10K which didn't have any tooling. Are Almond chucks with looking at? It has the appearances of a quality chuck but looks can be deceiving.

Is there any interest in "old stock" U.S. made Nicholson files?

Semi correct one and all.....I do NOT have the files nor the blanks. They're owned by the guy I bought my lathe from. HE is the one who has them. He's in the process of clearing out the home he inherited from his parents. I texted him and told him there was a smattering of interest but he...

Is there any interest in "old stock" U.S. made Nicholson files?

I recently bought a lathe from a terrific gent here in Philadelphia. He has a ton of his father's old stuff that he's been going through. His dad was a machinist at a Nicholson factory that I think was located here in in the area many moons ago. Is there any interest in what I think may be...

Your mentioning the information about the collet closer is precisely why I was asking my question. Because from the photos I've seen it simply DIDN'T make sense. So.....instead of assuming.....I asked. the experts. I've never SEEN a South Bend. Never WORKED on a South Bend and I know nothing...

A bit of ID help and specs please...

Let me ask you this........minus a cabinet, chuck and tailstock, what would you guess it weighs? I've seen specs that put it in the 800 pound range but I think that's will the cabinet and tooling attached.

A bit of ID help and specs please...

This is all fantastic information all. The photos the gent sent me show that although a bit dusty it appears to be in fantastic un-abused and much loved condition. I'm hoping to see it this evening on my way home from work and give the guy the cash right then if the ways are good and there are...

A bit of ID help and specs please...

Ahhhhhhh.........ok. Thanks for that information. If we're in the 1" range that may work to get me up and running. Especially considering the price the gent is asking. This machine looks very babied for it's age, I estimate it's in the 1970s range or slightly later. He's just trying to get...

A bit of ID help and specs please...

I'm not sure what a 10K means. Does the bore go all the way through the headstock? If it doesn't how does one attach the collet closer attachment? If the bore goes all the way through would you happen to know the diameter? Thanks again.

Hello one and all..... I may have hit the jackpot. I'm in the market for an affordable lathe and I had someone reach out to me with a semi-old family lathe. It was passed down to him by his grandfather through his father. The label on the machine ID's it as a South Bend model CL670Z. I did some...

Thanks for that. I'm thinking there is a full bore of the headstock since in that manual there is listed a long collet closer that runs from the back end all the way through the headstock to the nose end. There's gotta be a through hole, right?

An update: A good friend of mine overseas has offered his help with financing such a lathe. And my budget has about tripled so I can get into the 2 grand range. Does ANYONE know of a good source for used machine tools in the Philadelphia, PA area? I've tried Craigslist and Facebook...

You can turn the pieces in halves but at some point you pretty much need to run a pass on the entire length of greater than 29". And they're tapered which is a whole other kettle of fish. Typically .840ish to 1.250ish over 29" Different cuemakers prefer different tapers. What we used to do...

This is why I posted on so many CL pages. I did receive a few calls but couldn't afford what they were asking, another was sold immediately after I contacted the gent, another didn't have the spindle bore.....his was only about .750ish from what I could see of the photos. Hope springs eternal.

    Antique identification

Good afternoon, Does anyone recognize the lathe in the photos I'm attaching? It has no name plate nor ID on it anywhere. Photos aren't very good I'm afraid. Got them from the owner in another state so I'm not able to snap photos myself. Thanks for any help you can be.
