    Dividers Should Be Digital

That's sort of what I'm looking to do... Planning to make a metal bending jig similar to the Ultra Jig or Versa Jig made by Yesteryear forge and want to do the layout right on the metal plate. Looking to make 3 large spirals such that each one is used to bend a certain metal thickness (1/8"...

    Dividers Should Be Digital

Over the years more things have gone digital. I am surprised I haven't seen our trusty spring dividers used for laying-out things with a digital readout. It seems redundant to have to use my vernier to set the size of my dividers when there should be a dial on the dividers so you can set it...

Schaublin SV70 Toolmakers' Lathe with CHROME ways and VARIAC 1700-B Speed Controller

After 50+ years of gentle use we're thinking about selling our Schaublin SV70 Toolmakers' lathe and am wondering if there's any interest in it and what their value (price) may be. This machine came out of Bendix during the age of the space-race and may have actually made parts for the Mercury &...

    Schaublin 70 Lathe F-16 Collets

I have a Schaublin 70 Toolmakers' lathe with a W 12 headstock and collets. I also have a set of F 16 dead-length collets that are Schaublin. Wondering if anyone has familiarity with the F 16 collets and headstock, or has a machine with the F 16 headstock (turret lathe?)? Would like to see what...

    Q. re burner for a gas-fired forge

here's some pics of the burner I have. The slots are not bevelled. I'll say that sometimes it seems to work better when there is a cross-breeze otherwise the thing will kind of choke itself out.

Screw Locations for Round Split Die Stock

I decided to make a die holder for my lathe's tailstock and was wondering what are the locations of the 3 screws used to hold & adjust the split die in the die stock. I am using 1" and 13/16" diameter dies and was trying to find out what are the angles for the 3 screws. It looks to me like the...

    Q. re burner for a gas-fired forge

I have a propane fired forge with a burner like you describe that I purchased and can check after this weekend. It's in FL, but I'm in NJ until the weekend. If I forget remind me with a PM as I have a lot going on after being away for 2 months.

Cutting Small Diameter Circles On A Lathe

I have not tried other cutter wheel shapes, but was considering that when I make a better cutting tool - this trial was to see if it would even work. I primarily use 0.022" or 0.032" thick copper or brass (soft or 1/4-hard), but I also plan to do aluminum. I have only gone as small as 2.25"...

Cutting Small Diameter Circles On A Lathe

I've seen some threads about making circles from sheet material as well as some options for accomplishing that. My problem is that most postings talk about larger size circles or show circle cutters that can't make small circles 4" diameter or less. So I address that issue with a configuration...

thanks for pointing out that there are 2 versions of the F16 collet. I have the 76-104 type that's 55 mm long overall. BTW I appreciate the catalog link since it explained about the gooved collet bores. Was wondering why some were grooved and others not. Now I know :)
