ISO: Jaws for a 6" 6-Jaw Chuck (Pratt Burnerd, dimensions inside)

This is a 6" Pratt Burnerd 6-Jaw but I somehow have two sets of 3 jaws for it (with slightly different dimensions). These appear to be standard american tongue and groove, I'd like to get a set of 6 for this chuck. Doesn't have to match the length or width of the ones listed, this is just to get...

ISO: Pratt Burnerd master jaws for 10" 6-jaw 1219-00385

I realize this is a one-in-a-million shot, but does anyone have a Pratt Burnerd 1219-00385 junk chuck laying around? Or at least the master jaws from it? I am missing my #4. I'd want either a #4 or preferably, the entire set. For the record, this is a 10" 6-jaw. Mine has an L1 backing plate...

Best APKT 1604 insert for AR500?

Yes, these are excellent points. To be clear, I should have said something like "indexable cutter" as I use 10-15 different styles of indexable endmills, facemills, shoulder mills, etc.. I use APKT almost exclusively as it comes in pretty much every flavor of cutter body and insert grade...

Best APKT 1604 insert for AR500?

Thank you for posting your experiences. One of the insert grades I wanted to try was Sandvik 4220 (H10-H30, wet or dry - which I prefer the latter). I thought about trying their R390 insert but honestly it appeared to just be a slightly modified APKT but at 200% the price (and 500% the price for...

Best APKT 1604 insert for AR500?

It's been nearly 2.5 years but I figured I'd post a follow up. I have tried dozens of insert shapes and grades and nose radii and all that in the meantime. Kennametal, Sandvik, Iscar, Ingersoll, Carboloy, Valenite, Tungaloy, Seco, Korloy, Kyocera and Widia if I remember correctly. Right now...

Looking for advice on repairing worn L1 internal taper

I thought about that so I tried indicating in different portions of the compound's range of movement, with no difference in indication output. You can also see a little light at either extreme end of the taper if you press a parallel up against it.

Looking for advice on repairing worn L1 internal taper

I'd love to have an adapter so that I could at least put a center in the spindle, but it looks like these things do not exist anymore. Maybe I'll turn down an MT adapter someday if I'm bored.

Looking for advice on repairing worn L1 internal taper

Just a quick update on this. I spent a few hours carefully indicating in the spindle. Much harder than I expected. Had to get the compound gib just right to keep it from wiggling but while also being movable. The spindle appeared perfect visually but ended up having a little wear at the extremes...

Looking for advice on repairing worn L1 internal taper

Fascinating! I'd never heard of it, I researched every taper I could think of and didn't come up with anything. With careful measurement of the internal taper it looks like it goes from 2.000" to 1.780" ID over a distance of about 3.750 (very tough to tell this measurement, the transition of...

Looking for advice on repairing worn L1 internal taper

That's definitely a good call, I run all of my compounds with a cordless drill nowadays.

Looking for advice on repairing worn L1 internal taper

Thank you. There is nothing in the center hole of the spindle, which does not have any industry standard taper in it anyway (a surprising fact to find out, myself)

Looking for advice on repairing worn L1 internal taper

I thought about doing this but I didn't think it'd be accurate enough and it'd need to be ground. I can definitely try this. Nice idea with indicating the far side of the spindle to get the angle perfect! And yes, there is about 1/8" of clearance from the threads to the spindle register so I...

Looking for advice on repairing worn L1 internal taper

I've got a 1951 Nebel LN 18x60" (fairly obscure, Cincinnati-built that looks like a Monarch clone), which as you probably guessed has an L1 spindle. I have a Hardinge-Sjogren 2J Collet chuck for this lathe that I purchased recently, but it seems that the taper inside the backing plate is worn...

Mill suggestions with a very long X travel AND can nod the head

I will be honest and say that I've never even seen a CNC machine, my shop is entirely manual but I am definitely keeping this gameplan as an option. Could be my excuse to learn CNC! The idea of being able to make any of my large blades in a matter of hours sounds completely insane and I love it...

Mill suggestions with a very long X travel AND can nod the head

I recently built a giant contraption that swings these swords in a 12 foot arc, powered by tow recovery straps. That was one of the tests we did, against a ballistic gelatin dummy head - the Gallagher. I haven't released the video yet but the brain flew a good 20 feet out the side of the skull :D

1940s Marvel Series 8 Bandsaw - Bogs down constantly?

Oh I forgot to do this. Good call on the location, I never would have found it - it was completely encrusted. It is 812714. I did some googling but couldn't really find any age info pertaining to this, it seems most reference data is in the 4- or 5-digit serial # range. (30s and 40s). So this...

Mill suggestions with a very long X travel AND can nod the head

This is actually a niche industry where I am recreating fantasy weapons from video games, manga, movies, etc.. All of the effort goes into making a faithful reproduction, no matter how outlandish and impractical it is. About half of my customers simply display their weapons, the other half seem...

1940s Marvel Series 8 Bandsaw - Bogs down constantly?

UPDATE TIME So after a bit of holiday delay I got back to playing with this saw. I never really found any smoking guns so I reassembled the machine. I DID find something interesting while doing so. There is a 3-position flat belt/conehead configuration under the bed of the machine that I forgot...

Mill suggestions with a very long X travel AND can nod the head

Many thanks for the suggestions guys. I've created searched for all these various machines on ebay, bidspotter, etc.. I'd love any further suggestions, especially stuff more common in the states.
