Take my hat off for the Aussies.

Yes they were originally made in Adelaide SA by sportco that were later bought out by omark who I think we're actually Canadian company? You might want to have a look at what they are running for at the moment. I bought my first beaten up one about 15yrs ago and it was $150 and they seem to...

Take my hat off for the Aussies.

They shoot better than they should but not exactly something to preach about. Single shot only. 3 lug, full diameter bolt with floating bolt head held in place with a pin. Actions are mild steel so bolt lugs engage into the back of the barrel extension. Pros. Seems to be accurate due to...

https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/d5212 Like this. Note this one is only 5 micron (X2 for diameter use) but I think they also do a 1 micron if you wanted

    It's a PITA . . . . To get it neat you need a small scale.

What's a good insert for dry turning 304 stainless?

I like these. On a manual machine I do a fair percentage of stainless and find them good for pretty much everything else as well. A good multi purpose insert.

    Metric drill set types questions

Waaaaattttt? A 10mm bolt is 10mm major diameter. Just like a 1" bolt is 1" Somewhat difference is metric can be simple. 10mm bolt has a 1.5mm pitch so you use a 8.5mm tapping drill. Etc etc etc Metric is just like imperial but uses decimals instead of fractions.

    Metric drill set types questions

Standard set would be 1 to 13mm in .5mm increments. I have a couple nice sets of Dorma drills that are .1mm increments up to 10mm.

    7mm cartridge choices

Usually just use 6.5x284 lapua brass and neck it up. 1000s of f class shooters are using it every weekend. Lapua have also released straight .284 brass but so far it's in limited quantities. Probably not the ideal SHTF setup but plenty obtainable

    7mm cartridge choices

I was going to mention the SAUM but brass is getting harder to find and not sure if it's going to be around forever. I find it strange that Lapua won't make SAUM or WSM brass but has started making 6.5PRC and 300PRC all non belted magnum cases.

    7mm cartridge choices

Yep sure is. Just need to confirm the twist rate and decide what your using it for / what bullet you want to use to make sure the freebore length correct. .284 was originally designed as a short action cartridge so a SAMMI reamer is going to have a very shoot freebore. If your based in the UK...

    7mm cartridge choices

There are lots of 7mm's. What about a straight .284 in the long action? Very accurate calibre, can run an expander mandrel through Lapua 6.5x284 and have high quality brass. High quality competition level dies available. Probably getting very close to optimal case capacity especially in a 24"...

Which lathes can cut threads against stop more than Hardinge ?

I've seen some guys retro fit a VFD with braking resistors and a prox switch. You can adjust ramp up time and stopping duration to match your lathe and job. It doesn't disengage the half nut so you can cut metric and imperial with the same system. Once it hits the prox and stops you press an...

OT (but quite pertinent, I think) -- A New Idea Regarding Gun Control

So what's your solution to the problem?

OT (but quite pertinent, I think) -- A New Idea Regarding Gun Control

Ok so why are you getting car jacked? I'm not so I don't need to carry a gun to prevent it. So like I said earlier. . You guys are too far down the road. Plenty more kids are gonna die before there is meaningful change. I'm not saying that change is a gun ban. Maybe a better approach would...

OT (but quite pertinent, I think) -- A New Idea Regarding Gun Control

Yep I think this has a lot to do with it. You guys have highest incarnation rate of anywhere in the world and a large portion on minimum wage. With that setup if people feel like the only way to get them or their family ahead is the break the law they will do it. Funny how Australia was...

OT (but quite pertinent, I think) -- A New Idea Regarding Gun Control

Have you ever heard the saying "the way to get shot is to carry a gun" ? The more guns out there the more opportunity criminals will have access to them. Breaking into importers, gun shops, homes etc. Do you think that if I felt seriously in danger one or more of those firearms may just be...

OT (but quite pertinent, I think) -- A New Idea Regarding Gun Control

So why can't they enforce things like this? Are they under funded or lazy? Stuff like that gets jumped on pretty hard over here.

OT (but quite pertinent, I think) -- A New Idea Regarding Gun Control

The problem you guys have is your too far down the road. There are too many guns out there both legally and illegally that it's probably going to take a few decades for even stringent laws to become effective enough to stop a stack of kids being killed. Be real about it. Even if they had all...

    New machines

Probably depends a bit on where your located and what's brands have a good sales rep in your area. I bought Sumitomo Turing tools and inserts. Rep was doing deals of buy 2 packs of inserts and get the tool for free. They have anti vibe boring bars and nice insert retailers on the general...
