Sacrfice tooling life to save on repairs

I feel bad as I thought this was a discussion forum. Not a bitch a guy out and ridicule without asking questions forum. Did I see a need to divulge all the unrequested information you complain about? Nope. Did I think it mattered? Nope. I had a lot of respect for this site. If I ever revisit the...

Forget I even asked. I wanted some questions answered not to be ridiculed. What a waste of time today here.

Sacrfice tooling life to save on repairs

Numbers are not from a website or catalog. These are close to manufacturer recommended parameters and what we found works best for the material we use. We have been running these parts and programs for a very long time at these speeds. I am not the one making the call to slow things down. I...

Sacrfice tooling life to save on repairs

We had been drilling holes in a run of parts and all was fine. The other morning the holder came out of the spindle after a number of cycles. The machine is not being serviced until sometime next week when parts show up. So far it is being assumed that the hydraulic fingers that hold the...

Sacrfice tooling life to save on repairs

Out of curiosity, how many are running 20% less on feed and speed in order to give spindle and bearings longer life? Where I work, we do long setups for a few parts instead of long runs of parts. Example is we may setup for 30 mins to run a 5 min cycle and then on to the next part/setup. We run...

    Looking for insight milling tubing

After going over the process with the rest of the shop this is the way we feel will work best until we get the robot ready (unknown ETA on that) Good talk and some great advice.

    Looking for insight milling tubing

I love this group. We do these parts per order so it could be anywhere from 2 - 50 tubes depending on the week. Currently its just 2 for this week and they do not come through each week. I have discussed some other options with the rest of the guys as well. Even turning the entire corner into...

    Looking for insight milling tubing

I was wondering about the cutter grabbing edges so I am glad that was spoken on. Thanks. We are in the middle of no where so going to another shop to have them laser cut is at least a 50 mile (100 round trip) venture. We do have a robot laser but it is not set up for this long of a part....yet...

    Looking for insight milling tubing

I agree with all that. We have a very very picky client so the cut and grind method does not work for them. Customer drives quality. Subbing out adds cost so again the customer we have would not like that either. I am in a position that leads me here asking for advice. Either way this will end...

    Looking for insight milling tubing

Hey all, I have a 3 x 5 tube that we will be milling. I want to use our 3/4 5 flute end mill in one pass. Depth of cut would be 3.125" for the one pass ( or less but for now this would be suffice). I want to make sure the feed is correct when it hits the full 3". Perhaps I would want to do this...

machiningcloud.com If the tool manufacturer is listed and works with them a lot of the SFM is there. Adjust as needed. It is a very handy app.

    Reverse nc editor/converter

I do not think it does. I have compared to CIMCO but I feel I convinced them that letting me do this in the CAM software is a better faster option.

    Reverse nc editor/converter

What I have been tasked to do is to copy and edit the FADAL programs to translate to code for the HAAS. To me it feels like I am just handwriting the code and not using the software we just invested in as well as the time to learn the software plus some paid for training. What irritates me now...

    Reverse nc editor/converter

The E1 for G54 as well as other Gxx.1, Gxx.2 ect. I am not sure if going through and finding the values and making the changes are any faster but I am going to see how it all works out.

    Reverse nc editor/converter

Out of curiosity, is there a method to convert a program to be read by another machine using different code with the same functionality? I have an old FADAL with 200+ programs that I want to convert to run on my new HASS. The G-CODE differs from machine to machine. I am looking for a way to...

Instructor approves cutting steel at 2000sfm

You can get Vendor recommended feeds & speeds. The only thing that has a SFM of 1000 is plastic with a 3/4 carbide endmill. For 1018 you would be in the ballpark of 300-500 SFM. You are not wrong.

Is SW CAM / CAMWorks as clunky and useless as it looks?

I started using it a few months ago. It was a bit difficult to understand I agree as there are other CAM software that is easier to use, however it is really simple. I would look into mentoring through your VAR.

    SolidCam problem

When you have the toolpath right click the op and in the NC tab there is a CNC compensation. See if you get the results you need with it on or off.
