Need help to identify this lathe

This is an older bench top size lathe, no name plate, but it does have some numbers cast into the parts. There are several odd things about this one: 1) It has a carriage with cross slide and compound, and these have adjustable Gibs, but it also has a steady rest (though small) like you would...

Randy, I think this is your user acct I'm sending a message to. Wanted you to check out a tailstock I just baought to adapt to the myers lathe -it's a SouthBend 9", so I figure with the center hight on my lathe being 10+ inches, we have room for an adapter block underneath the South Bend tail...

Myers 10 Inch Lathe Gear questions

I did a serach of this forum and read various posts on Myers lathes specifically looking for Gear info, hopefully I havent 'missed' the answer to any of my questions: I have a Myers 10 inch lathe with MOST of the gears, though after removing some pieces with the help of a freind (an experienced...

"Jet" (?) Vertical Mill on Atlanta Craigslist

This was posted yesterday (1-20-11) with a lot of Pics. Seller says it's a 1985 model. It needs a motor and you can see a lot of rust on it. Wierd thing to me was the name plate shown in one of the pics - it looks more like "Jet Mfg of Shanghai" than the Jet I'm used to. (Green paint is kind...

    Another Old Myers Beastie

I'm also a recent new owner of a Myers, you may have seen the post prev. I was going to suggest using the archived page of American machinist one of the guys posted to help date your machine, but yours looks a bit different: you don't have the 'gear box' (at least thats what I call it) that I...

"Phosphor bronze" spindle bearings in antique lathe(?)

Jim - in the picture you posted, is that half the bearing sitting to the side ('above' the axis a bit in the picture)? It looks like it's sitting on top of a cast collar type piece with screws coming out to match the vertical holes in the upward facing plane... Am i correct on this...

"Phosphor bronze" spindle bearings in antique lathe(?)

Myers headstock bearing in the pictures you may be able to see the bit of goldish material sticking out -it doesn't turn, the shaft it's around does. Gotta figure that's the bearing. Seems to turn smooth, so I'm not sure if I should try to open that part up or not.

"Phosphor bronze" spindle bearings in antique lathe(?)

The Myers 10 inch is now safley in my garage. Though it seems in good shape and had apparenlty been run in recent times, I'm thinking a disassembly and cleaning is in order. As far as the headstoc kis concerned, the bearings are "phosphor bronze", and I'm wondering if it's even a good idea...

    MYERS 10-Inch Lathe w/ "NO.2" on legs

Thanks for the info, Sphere. I think I actually looked at some of your old posts when I was considering bidding on this machine. The funny thing for me was that I used to live very close to Columbia, PA. Alot of us may have been there without realizing it, simply by driving across the...

    MYERS 10-Inch Lathe w/ "NO.2" on legs

Thanks for identifying the tailstock, Turk - I knoew it wasn't a Myers, but hadn't been identified. The same picture shows a hunk of ALuminum laying on the floor - it's a fabricated stand-in for the tail stock. Looks much nicer up close, but still pretty rudimentary. I'd like to get an...

    MYERS 10-Inch Lathe w/ "NO.2" on legs

Additional (more complete) photo The machine actually has the compound slide, as you'll see in this picture (I think you mean the slide that moves perpendicular to the bed? I've improved in my knoweledge, but I'm still a beginner!). This is actually being transported to my home near Atlanta...

    MYERS 10-Inch Lathe w/ "NO.2" on legs

Over the weekend I finally got to see this up close - it was an Ebay buy, but after having several people look at it on line, I was confident the (low) price I paid was worth it. I did look at other past link on 10 inch myers machines from this forum, and I think my machine is different in...
