    FP1 bogging down

So I didn’t realize that the vertical spindle runs in a plain bearing. It needed lubrication. The oil goes in a keyway at the top of the quil. Now it is running well. Hopefully I didn’t damage anything. Thanks for the comments that pointed me in the right direction.

    FP1 bogging down

I finally got my 60s era lever transmission FP1 working. First cuts were quite promising but after 15 -20 min it starts loading up and slowing down. I initially thought it was an issue with the motor and vfd I installed, but then when I turned the handwheel at the back there was a lot of...

    FP1 leftovers

yes I have the gear shift handles. Those springs are much finer and I managed to put them all back in when I reassembled them after cleaning. The springs in the picture are quite heavy. since there are 2 of them I was suspecting that they may be for the X table gib locks but the exploded view I...

    FP1 leftovers

I bought an older FP1 at auction and it had been painted - you know the kind of paint job where every fastener, wheel and probably the cat are coated with thick gobs of paint with a brush. I tore it down, scrubbed everything and reassembled. I've torn down a few machines but this is more complex...

Bp Series 1 kwik switch 200

Looking at a hurco Cnc conversion on a series 1. it comes with a kwik switch spindle nose. I don’t know anything about it. Is this an adapter that can be removed or is it integral to the spindle?

3 ball crank handle on older FP1

Ross you are making a lot of sense. I think the only way I could extract it would be to fabricobble a custom puller and perhaps use some heat. I have soaked the handle in evaporust and it did a good job. There is a lot of pitting which I will fill with hard silver solder and polish it the best I...

3 ball crank handle on older FP1

Ok then you can see the crank goes into a boss that is seperate from the ball. The crank rotates in the boss, so I suppose that the crank goes through that boss, then it is peened over, and the boss is either tbreaded or pressed into the ball. I am not sure which. I have tried to tgread it out...

3 ball crank handle on older FP1

I am de-rusting an older FP1. The nice 3ball handles have crank handles that spin. It appears that those handles ride in a bushing that is either pressed into the 3 ball handle or threaded in. Does anybody know how I can remove it so that I can clean up the handle and crank and polish them on...

Did I just almost die? (oxy-acetylene)

I have both. The O/A setup is very versatile. You can heat up stuff to bend it, or free rusted bolts, heat your tea. No reason to get rid of it. Just fix the leaks and be careful. YOu screwed up - we've all done it. I bet you won't do that again - facing violent death focuses the mind like few...

mystery attachment - could be for Schaublin type 53 mill

There is a schaublin type 53 mill for sale locally. IN a cabinet with some equipment that is for this mill I found this attachment. ON the right is a gearbox with a universal shaft with a keyed extension, so for a situation where the attachment would be mounted on a moving table but the shaft...

    Lathe adjustment and checking..

I presume an accurate test bar is important. I know I am probably being naive asking this, but on Ebay there are ground test bars from India. They claim accuracy of 2 10ths. Has anybody bought one? I am probably dreaming that I can get a good ground test bar for $110 bucks, but I WANT to...
