    vee belt information

The problem would be if he doesn't have an old 5L belt and has to measure around the the flat pulley, he has to allow for that extra 0.750 belt diameter at that pulley. So if the known 5L belt is 44-inches OC, then the B belt IC is 3-inches less than that, so he would order a B belt with a 41...

    vee belt information

I was trying to answer the OP's question...hence the part numbers. I'll correct you on L belts, Most of South Bend's belt part numbers that were 3, 4 and 5L for the year of his lathe did reference the belt OC, as in the examples I gave. I was trying to give enough info so as he could measure the...

    vee belt information

Your lathe is a 10K(Light Ten) not a Workshop 9-inch by the Catalog Number(CL670R and the serial number, it's a 1968 HMD with a flat belt cone drive, so I can assume you need a motor to counter shaft pulley v-belt. They didn't list the numbers as specific to the lathe most of the time. The SBL...

    Serial Numbers Wanted

Very nice find, and my overall choice for the best South Bend Workshop lathe made. I've wanted one for years, just haven't found one yet. This is a Tool-Room lathe, model 8344-ZD, 3.5-foot bed. It has drawers on the right side of the underdrive bench. if the "D" was absent in the catalog number...

    Grafting New Cross Slide Screw

Yes, I was thinking about 20 bucks too. I was going to offer it for sale when I have the lathe up and running and can make the dials a bit faster. It's labor intensive making them on the 10L, then it takes 30 minuets in the cnc mill engraving pre dial after that. control panel for the lathe...

    Grafting New Cross Slide Screw

I have a repair manual completed for the 9/10K that has the prints in it for turning the parts for a large dial conversion. These are factory specs, not guess-ta-mates. Have not sold the manual yet alone. I was hoping to be able to supply the parts a lower cost that a complete screw assembly...

    Grafting New Cross Slide Screw

More...?? These are works in progress, testing different ways to build a handle/pinion gear blank, using 680 to bond them. Starting with a TGP 0.375 shaft and a 0.750 gear blank bored to fit. This is 1144 SP also.

    Grafting New Cross Slide Screw

Thank you, I appreciate that. Yes, the 1/2" will work as you stated. Keep in mind that a normal 2G tap is going to be oversize, enough that it will be a loose fit. It would be better to single point the nut for a nice fit to the screw. South Bend's print on the screw was a standard 2G print with...

    Grafting New Cross Slide Screw

I've found that cutting off the old acme screw at the rear face of the pinion gear or on a "C" type, the gear blank, then drill the gear blank in a collet or chuck undersize. Bore to 0.010 undersize, then ream to exact size. About an inch deep. This keeps everything concentric to your allowed...

    Motor mount distance

I believe, If I remember correctly, the belt length on your 10K would be 50-1/4-inches, for the black CE3750K Texalon belt. The 9-inch drive with the tension turnbuckle on the right of the headstock was different and used a 53-1/2-inch belt. You can check that by measuring with a tape and...

    Help with identifying the year

newer than 12/12/1957 and older than 10/16/1967 X-bracing on 10L's started 12/12/57, optional flame hardened ways until 10/16/67, after that date all 10L's were hardened as standard.

That one is a 1946. No problem on numbers, I'll never catch up anyway... I still have hundreds of them to add, I just can't do it all the time anymore and I get behind. Steve
