I am looking for some Chrome Steel Balls for a bearing

Thanks Halco. Good stuff. Could you email me as it sounds like you know your spindles. This one has just thrown me mystery. [email protected]

I am looking for some Chrome Steel Balls for a bearing

McMaster has them, but they seem quite cheap so I was wondering about the spec on them. McMaster has tight tolerance balls but not in that size.

I am looking for some Chrome Steel Balls for a bearing

I am working on a spindle for a Rivett 104 grinder head and the front bearing has some 11/32 balls in the bearing. I am looking for loose balls, chrome steel, tight tolerance. A pack of 25 would work. I am looking for options for sources? Thanks for looking.

    Rivett 104 Grinder Bulletin 104 E

I am disassembling a 104 work head and can't seem to get the spindle off of the front bearing stack. Do you have any cross section showing how it is put together? This is the ball bearing headstock, which has a 4 point dividing sleeve in the middle. Thanks.

Grinding Carbide, Health & Safety, Throat Irritation

When I grind carbide tools on my Tool and Cutter Grinder with diamond wheels, if I get the slightest amount in my nose or throat I get a bad reaction. I have a vacuum setup and wear a mask almost all of the time, but if for some reason the geometry of the grinding relationship to the vacuum...

Automobile Manufacturing, all the new EV's, how is the tooling made?

I thought the same when someone suggested I test drive a Nissan Leaf. The energy density is less but since ~70% of the energy in a gallon of gasoline is wasted as heat, batteries are not that bad. But yes, I doubt they will get those numbers. Still, I would love to fly it.

Automobile Manufacturing, all the new EV's, how is the tooling made?

Yes, fossil fuels have had subsidies for almost 100 years. If a group of investors decided to start an energy company, what would be easier to get funded and started today? A coal plant, gas plant, nuclear, wind farm, solar? Once you have the location, wind and solar would get on line long...

Automobile Manufacturing, all the new EV's, how is the tooling made?

High food chain fish and some shellfish are sources of mercury which comes from burning fossil fuels that contain mercury with coal being high on the list. I had a small piece of tuna tonight. Yes, how does one flip over a piece of steel the size of a king bed? So these are CNC machined to...

Same issue with hydro. I asked a small dam operator what happens when a tree takes down the outgoing power line. This hydro plant had three separate systems to close the wickets, close the penstock valve, and some other valve to keep the turbine from going high C. Scary. Same with wind...

Automobile Manufacturing, all the new EV's, how is the tooling made?

If you look back historically, the cost of electricity has been going down when factoring in inflation. Remember, very little electricity is made with oil. Basically less than one percent in the US. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) Notice that...

So the large stamping dies I see on the big presses and the giga thing, are they cast steel? I'd like to see a video on how those are made.

Automobile Manufacturing, all the new EV's, how is the tooling made?

Our gas range is a commercial South Bend and works well. Simple, no electrical hookup, and cheap. It was $1200 14 years ago. Bit messy as it is hard to keep clean. It is used many times a day so it looks like one in a restaurant. Looking forward, we would test an induction range as it would...

Automobile Manufacturing, all the new EV's, how is the tooling made?

I'm thinking the same Ries. The change to EV's will be slow enough that the lower usage appliances and the electric companies adding capacity will balance out. Our usage went up 10% with the EV. And it is not like the Electric companies would be delighted to have to string more cable and...

Automobile Manufacturing, all the new EV's, how is the tooling made?

Yes, definitely one of the lowest rates in the US. We have mostly hydro and nuclear powering our grid with some wind and solar. I just checked and our electricity rate, after the basic hookup, is $0.0761 / kWh. The Leaf, as do most EV's unless you are stomping your Mach-E, gets 4.5 miles per...

Automobile Manufacturing, all the new EV's, how is the tooling made?

Didn't know the electric vehicle thread was closed. Our Leaf is doing just fine. Our electricity is $0.075 kWh in the PNW. The reason electricity rates have been so stable over the years is that electricity is not generated using oil. Well, maybe a tiny bit...

Those were very interesting videos on Warren presses search on YT. So are the two dies castings? How long does it take to profile and polish the surfaces? Looks like a big job to me. Most of my parts are smaller than your chips.

Well that was interesting. I didn't know that much die casting was done and increasing in Auto production. Still very impressive. What about the thin sheet metal on the outside of the car? Still stamped out? Does Tesla or any other manufacturers use aluminum for body panels?
