'06 VM1 not reading t/c arm at 60 degree position.

It sounds to me like the swing arm has shifted on the shaft. The arm mounts using a compression fitting that allows it to rotate around the shaft as well as allowing vertical adjustment. There are procedures published elsewhere on the web describing the alignment. Basically put a tool holder...

    Need help measuring a groove

Hello All, I hope this is the proper place for my question. I need to measure the depth of a groove located in a pocket. Can you give me some ideas? The important measurement is the depth of the groove from the bottom of the pocket. I am currently using a dial caliper and this is...

South Bend Press in Columbus, Ohio

I really have no need for one. I like vintage equipment, but only to use. Is it very rare? When was it built? If someone here does get it, post up more pictures!

    SB 13" gear

A thorough search has yielded no results, so I humbly ask. On my 13", double tumbler, what is the correct tooth count for the gear that inputs to the gear box? This is the bottom gear on the banjo arm. I have found part number PT3237T1 listed, but no tooth count. Thanks for any help.

    Centroid M-15 error

I have found what I hope are the problems. The Y axis motor has oil contamination and the Y axis ball screw seal is out of place. I am having both professionally reconditioned. Thank you all for your help with my problem. This is a great forum!

    Centroid M-15 error

Thank you all for the responses. You have given me many things to check out. The mill I am working on is an Atrump K3VLC knee mill. The Y axis ways are square with 3 gibs. I have not adjusted any of them. I will check them. I have had an "Y axis idling too high" error once. I have found a...

    Centroid M-15 error

The ways and ballscrews are in good condition. With the power to the control off, I can turn the x and y axes. Both are smooth and free.

    Centroid M-15 error

I am working with a Centroid M-15 control running a knee mill. It was made about 2001, it had a new motherboard and hard drive installed about 3 years ago. All other parts are original. It has been run about 20 hours per week doing an assortment of jobs. The machine has started throwing...

    Centroid controller problem

Thanks for the suggestions! I think I will open up the computer console tomorrow. I will check all the connections that you suggest. You understand the workings of this better than I do. I appreciate the education. Scot

    Centroid controller problem

The percussive maintenance is performed on the control computer, not the magnetics cabinet. The limit switches were checked for continuity with the machine off. I will check for voltage at various points with the machine on. It was suggested elsewhere that the fiber optic cables in the...

    Centroid controller problem

I am having problems with a Centroid M-15 controller. The display reads limit switch faults on the z and x axes even though the axes are in the middle of their travel. The problem is intermittent, only occurring once or twice a week. (8 hours use per day) A sharp smack on the controller...

13" SB Taper Attachment Thrust Bearing Retro Fit

On my 1964 13" SB with a taper attachment, I used "Steel Thrust Ball Bearing" #6655K15, From McMaster Carr. They are the correct I.D. but oversized O.D. I ground the nylon cage to a smaller diameter on a belt sander. The balls are arranged in a small enough circle so that they are still...

    OT Case markings

I made a cast of the chamber. The area just forward of the belt varies from 0.515 in. to 0.517 in. Is this enough to cause my problems? Any suggestions short of re cutting the chamber? Thanks, Scot

    Phase Converter Question

I use a static phase converter for a Bridgeport clone and a South Bend 13". It seems to work fine for me but I do not hog a lot of material. Scot

    OT Case markings

Should not be too hot. I'm using a starting load. The cartridge is .264 Winchester Magnum. Load is 54.0 grains of IMR 4350 behind a 120 grain bullet. Bullet seated about .030 off the lands.

    OT Case markings

Hope this is not too unrelated. I am chasing accuracy problems with a post '64 model 70. Occasionally I have a rough extraction and the case is marked with a bright band. The markings do not go all the way around the case, only about 1/4 of the way, on opposite sides. The case head also...
