Grob vertical bandsaw- weights for feeder

I have an older Grob 24” vertical bandsaw that is missing the weights for the feeder mechanism. Anybody have an idea how much weight is needed for cutting 1/2” or 1” thick plate steel? Im going to rig up something for weights, but I haven’t been able to find any info on the internet about how...

Clausing 15” lathe question- won’t turn true

Was using my dad’s Clausing 8000 series 15” lathe, was turning down a 2” shaft sticking 6” out of the Chuck. Upon measuring, the shaft had a .010 taper to it. So, releveled the lathe, checked alignment, everything checks out good with dial indicator every which way, but when turning, cuts a...

    More estate items-central Illinois

I did my best to rust proof, and tarp them. The ones listed here that are outside, are low dollar machines, that a shop like ours would buy, something inexpensive that you would only use very seldom. We’re talking what? $200 to 600 dollars machines here.

Estate items on auction- central Illinois

The items are all listed there, but not numbered yet. Clausing lathe is in an open front shed due to its size, but other machines are inside an enclosed building out of the elements. Will list lot numbers once they are posted. Maybe these forums are not the proper place to post these auction...

    Lapping hydrostatic pump plates

I’ve got some Eaton 5.4 hydrostat pumps that are a little low on pressure, and want to take the seal plates, and slippers out to try lapping them, hoping to up the pressure. From my research, I haven’t found the steps involved, I.e., kind of grit used, and grit sizes when doing hydrostatic pumps...

Help design an A frame hoist

Did a search for what’s laying around here, got some 12” I beams for uprights, but wondering if the 14” beam is strong enough for the top piece. The more I think about it, I think I will make it 12 to 14’ inside, so it would work over equipment. Haven’t found wheels, so I think I’ll leave it on...

Help design an A frame hoist

I did a search on here, went thru 7 pages of results, but didn’t find anything I could use. Maybe you can point me to some threads that would be helpful. Who’s Wallace?

Help design an A frame hoist

I am looking for a few different machines for my shop, but my holdup is a way to get them off a trailer once here. So my plan is to build an A frame type hoist to be able to back the trailer under it, and lift the machine off it. So I am looking for suggestions on the build. Max machine weight...

    >3" spindle ID lathes

Thinking about getting a bigger lathe, and want one with a 3" or larger spindle bore. Budget less than 10k. I am leaning toward either a Colchester 17 to 21", or a LeBlond Regal due to large numbers of those two to choose from, and parts also. Which would you prefer? Or would you still say "no...

    Clausing-Colchester instant on clutch

I believe this was at a slower speed not top speed. (shouldnt quote from memory)My dad has a goofy, heavy as heck 12" cushman 3 jaw, with independent adjustable jaws on it, takes about 1/2- 3/4 of a second to get to 500 rpm. Makes me cringe when it bangs on.

    Clausing-Colchester instant on clutch

this particular model has what clausing colchester calls instant on clutches. There is no feathering that you can do with it, and clutches run in oil in the headstock, so there is nothing wrong with them. The instructions on the back for adjusting the clutches tell you to adjust them tighter if...

    Clausing-Colchester instant on clutch

I have 15" Clausing Colchester lathe which is a nice lathe, with the exception that I absolutely hate that instant on clutch. Many times I want to ease something forward, nope, not gonna happen, bang! and the chuck is spinning wide open. Are the 17" to 21" C-C lathes like this? Or any other...

old Carlton radial drill spindle notches

well, tried a 4 to 5 morse taper adapter, but no need for the notch. But did look just right for two driving keys like was previously suggested.

old Carlton radial drill spindle notches

I was just looking at some old literature where they were boring with a radial drill, and using morse taper extensions. I bet the notch was to allow the use of a wedge to knock the arbor loose from the extension.

old Carlton radial drill spindle notches

Im working on getting my 1930 Carlton radial drill going, and was wondering about the spindle. It has #4 morse taper, second slot for a keeper, but what were the two notches (cutouts like for keystock) at the bottom of the spindle used for? I havent found any pictures of any morse taper arbor...

Gallmeyer& Livingston #5 tool & cutter grinder manual?

while cleaning, I found a patent number,(1664024) and located the patent showing lots of pictures. My machine was patented in 1928 and originally had a motor in the base with flat belts running the spindle and table feeds. The motor, drives and some of the table feed is missing, but with those...
