We used these at the last shop I worked at:
TG1F Hi-Feed Face Mill
Tungaloy Cutting Tools - Metal Working Tools - Milling - High-Feed Milling - TXN06

We used the Ingersoll tools for anything under an 1-1/2" in...
I tried it once and hated it. As easy as it is to program canned turning, facing, grooving and threading cycles I though it was pretty clunky and cumbersome.

Small solid carbide boring bar in a boring head an option? Rough it out first .005" to .010 " under with an end mill and bore it after.

Try doing multiple passes in 1" stepdowns or helix down in 1" increments. If your taking the 5" length in one pass your 5x diameter on depth. In my experience anything after 2x diameter deep is just asking for it to sing you a song. Use the shortest reach tool holder you have and preferably use...
Feel free to contact me at [email protected] Not sure what you need exactly from the post but will be willing to help if I can accommodate.

Technically it depends. Are the threads internal or external? An ID top notch grooving bar uses the opposite hand insert so a right hand internal bar will use a left hand insert. Gotten burnt by that one more than once. Also it depends on which way you decide to feed. You can make a right hand...
Check to make sure you have a G01 in the canned cycle starting at the appropriate feed line between your N100 and N110 numbers. If it's not there it will rapid across the last step of the cycle.

How far are you extending the quill to your workpiece? You will want to keep that as short as possible to reduce deflection from the quill. In my opinion the spotting drill isn't necessary on that short of a depth. Also check the run-out of your tool while it's chucked in the collet. If there is...
Looking for recommendations on suppliers for T303 BSQ Round Bar. I have two suppliers I use now but have been getting more orders using BSQ and would like to find more suppliers to get quotes from. I'm located near Ft. Wayne IN but am not opposed to suppliers further away. Thanks

Are the dimensions on the prints before heat treatment/carberizaton or are they the finished dimensions after heat treatment/carberizaton? Just looking for some clarity as it will affect the final cost.

If it's a single part and you have access to an indexer and a Bridgeport you could broach the hex by hand with a cheap HSS tool bit using the quill and indexing accordingly every 60 degrees... Another option is to relieve the corners with a drill so you could machine the hex normally in a...
