I had an Elora (German I think) socket set from the late 70's that had Whitworth sockets. This was in the UK. Working with my Dad I was used to working with BA/UNF/UNC/Whitworth fasteners all the time.
Even into the 70's Whitworth fasteners were readily available. Now they come from India.
If the BP style mill was made in SoCal, with US castings, machined locally and assembled with foreign and domestic workers in SoCal
You'd all still find something to cry about.
It'll be fine, I have a 4020 with the 20/30hp motor (size of a small dustbin) and haven't seen any currents above 20A when using a clamp on meter. That's cutting 6061, but that included spinning up the motor, so I suspect you'll be ok.

Was going to attempt to get it running, but there's very little support around here for Yasnac controls (SoCal)
Didn't have time to get it running so ended up with an AL-2 (Fanuc 10T) that's turned out to be very accurate.

Locally...
One important fact that Fanuc has is that it doesn't sunset it's controls.

Plus if he's also a programmer he can help with programming...
I had to take pictures of all the parameters on a 10T a while ago. Punching the paraementrs out to a PC give me giggerish, so had to resort to the camera method.

I find productivity in UG NX about 50% higher when using one of these 3dconnexion Space Mouses. Especially if you set up the buttons. The small ones don't have a lot of buttons, but enough to be productive. They travel well...
I remember early 90's when some bright spark decided we should get Kurta tablets for Cadkey. Didn't like those one bit. One of those implementations to improve productivity that didn't work very well
