    Do I belong here?

Its unfortunate but maybe this crusty old geezer has dealt with an unlimited number of guys like your friend over his many years and doesn't feel the need to train yet another who will probably be gone in a year. It was hard for me to understand this thinking when I started but now at times its...

Why center drills in a lathe and not a drillpress

I have a few different diameter drill blanks with a point ground on them. In a radial drill simply drop into your center punch with the drill blank and lock the location. I will then punch the pointed drill blank into the center punch location making it slightly larger. Throw in the drill and...

How do you know if your concrete is good enough for your machine?

I've wondered what is the cure time on these deep pads? Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

    Work offset CNC programming

You are assuming the plane thats being drilled from is Z0. I'd recommend drilling R.01 above the surface the hole starts from. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

    Okuma cutter comp

Could the two moves be tied to running super nerbs Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

    Okuma cutter comp

It requires 2 moves either linear to radius or linear to linear on our machines Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

    Okuma cutter comp

It will work with two linear moves comping on and off. I prefer linear to radius . Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

    Okuma cutter comp

I believe the okuma needs 2 moves to establish cutter comp. Thats why the radius move works. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

    Tool steel breakage

Look st the heating sequence. I believe its recommended to heat in 400° / hour steps. I'm not sure if heating to fast may create a problem. I've been doing this and seem to have good luck. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

.063 Radius in a long slot

And another hat is handed out. 12x depth is difficult. Drill it close, possibly plunge with a relieved flute 3mm small step over to reduce chatter. Production guys will laugh, I'm a mold maker so I only get one shot so speed isn't the key. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

    Touching off small tools questions.

It does if you are setting diamond coated graphite cutters. It doesn't take long either. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

CNC high speed mill for graphite

It all depends on what you are doing and more importantly what you want to do in the future. We had 5 12G Bosto's at one time. They are all gone and replaced with 1 machine doing more work. If the 6 station tool changer was ok on the 12G you will be fine with 16, 24 or 30. Personally 60 is...

    NPT drill size .0005 difference

I'm curious, was most of the leaks in heat treated blocks? Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

    Tall part in sinker EDM

Thanks for sharing. Hopefully will help others in the future. I'm stashing this away in the memory bank. One could also weld up a odd shaped piece out of sheet stock for bigger blocks. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Set screw holder with no flat? Safe???

Clamping on a round surface with a set screw will eventually put that radius into the set screw. This creates a friction stop and set screw over time looses the amount of Clamping force on the cutter. You would need to replace the set screw to insure its effectiveness. Take pride in your work...

Sinker EDM question about making a fourth electrode.

In my experience something to think about when throwing a smaller spark gap to crisp up corners. When you look at wear % a .0015-.003 spark gap has really high wear rate on the last few power lines. Since the first down line does 90% of the work adding a trode with small s.g. at the end has...

how fast is an edm hole?

Broken drill 4140 roll 120” long

Break carbide off 7 in deep and it will be in a edm for weeks. I'm guessing its going to be tough to find a machine big enough to do this. Good luck [emoji106] Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Brain teaser- A well running job will not run the next morning.

Could it be your machine coolant pressure/ flow is different. Maybe not hitting the holes in the same manner. Maybe the chips have been removed allowing better coolant return to the tank and a slightly different pattern . Just a WAG. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

First experience with solid carbide deep hole drills

My first experience was in pre-hard 420 optical quality blocks for the lenses of the first self driving car. Nice pucker feeling to hit the button drilling 10+ in deep .562 dia 52rc with cross holes. Worked out awesome. Now its a norm drilling 1/8 dia. 20x deep and walking to the next machine...
