    V-belt information

Take the belt to an auto parts store. They should have the tool to measure it properly or they can hold it next to other belts to find its match.

With a $10-15k budget for a new manual lathe, what would you buy?

There are always good used machines available but often they are not local. Spend some of that money on travel to see good prospects rather than waste it on junk.

ot; DRILLING 1.25"diameter hole with hole saw through quartzite. I need to drill several 1.25 Diameter holes through. a quarztite shower surround.

There are two ways to do this. One is the use a stud finder on the wall above the quartz and level down. Or the way I did mine to ensure no issues is to just cut the dry wall on the wall behind. Dry wall is easy to patch and that way you are 100% sure where the studs are. Also you can screw a...

Wanted--one inch arbor for Hardinge TM/UM mill

Wanted-- one inch arbor for Hardinge UM/TM horizontal mill. I know some of you have installed a vertical head on your mill so maybe you have a horizontal arbor gathering dust that you likely will never use again. Please let me know if you have one you no longer need. Thanks, Dave

Sargon Mill Pro 3 Axis Display Needed

I went down this rat hole with an old Sargon system. Stuff this old does not like being bounced around in shipping. Also the Sargons use an old style connector from the scales to the display that don't work with any other system, so you can't reuse the scales with a different display. I just...

Need help with getting power to lathe

You can power it with anything that will drive a flat belt. A line shaft, a home made countershaft , or a flat belt pulley mounted directly on a motor shaft. The key factor is matching the pulley ratio to the speed of the motor so you can turn the chuck at the proper speed range. Are your motors...

Seeking advice for lagun vertical mill

I would be very suspicious of someone having the ways and table resurfaced. To have that done properly often costs more than a machine is worth. Gibs are easy to replace but rarely go bad. I suspect the seller ruined the machine and is trying to palm the thing off as just having an easy to fix...

For Sale: 1938 HENDEY 16" HEAVY DUTY METAL SHAPER w./ ACCESSORIES

Beautiful machine and you did a wonderful restoration. However, from the first posting I knew the almost $5k price was way above what 99.99% of people would pay. I suspect only the odd rich collector (one in a million guy) would dump that much in a shaper. Usually shapers sell because they are...

    South Bend questions

A quick change tool post can be switched in and out with a lantern style in under two seconds. Therefore, if you bought one with a few holders it would be no problem to take them with you and put the lantern style back on when you buy your own lathe.

Is Anyone Making Money 3D Printing

It's hard to see how you can make money 3d printing since the costs of a machine are so low. Imagine if a decent vmc could be bought for a few thousand dollars. There will always be a place for high end machines that can run balls out for a huge quantity of stuff. But when machines for proto...
