Need Help Finding Part Numbers for Norton Grinding Wheels
Thank you for the info! So how does Norton's hardness rating work? I see some have "A" after the first 2 numbers in the wheel name, not sure what that indicates. AO I'm assuming is aluminum oxide. -

Don't think I'll be using it too much at the moment as it's getting cold and there's no heater in the shed. I definitely have some Kroil on hand. I would like to take the carriage off to clean it. Synthetic oil, good or bad?

Synthetic oil, good or bad?
I was looking at the oils required for the Type A, B, and C which just appears to be a conventional oil. So if I was able to find a suitable replacement from Amsoil (been happy with their products, just a personal preference), would it be okay to switch over without having any issues? Just happened to get my Amsoil catalogue today, but this did cross my mind before about using a full synthetic lubricant. It's far superior in every aspect. So is anyone out there using synthetic oil? Sure it may sound like overkill but if it's able to reduce friction, still provides lubrication...- Mirage_88

Just want to confirm these things too... One is to put the tailstock off center, but it has a blunt end and I haven't found what is intended to be installed on the end. Just bought a South Bend 9a!
Thanks for the replies guys :) The stand is actually an "L" shape and there is a significant amount of weight on the backside where the motor and pulley assembly side. It's made of 1/4" steel, the legs flare out on the bottom, the stand on it's own is quite heavy. The only thing I need to add...- Mirage_88

Best Bench Top Mill???
It even crossed my mind to get the Emco milling attachment and retrofit it onto a slightly larger well build lathe. But it might be hard trying to get everything true. Any thoughts on that idea??? I see there is the odd lathe that has had this done. That Pratt & Whitney is still big for the... -

Sorry for the late reply everyone... Managed to get a cold in the meantime, such bad timing. So that boring jig ended up selling for $700, definitely not the most affordable route if it needs to be restored. But I did have a rather wacky idea, what is I retrofitted a vertical bed on a lathe... -

That is perfect! Now the big question is can that be converted from 3 phase to single phase 110v??? It's about a 10hr drive for me, so I'll have to look into shipping too.
