Need Help Finding Part Numbers for Norton Grinding Wheels

Thank you for the info! So how does Norton's hardness rating work? I see some have "A" after the first 2 numbers in the wheel name, not sure what that indicates. AO I'm assuming is aluminum oxide.

Need Help Finding Part Numbers for Norton Grinding Wheels

Very close, just needs to be a 1/2" arbour instead of 1". Unless I just run a spacer, am I correct in thinking grinding wheels do have spacers?

Need Help Finding Part Numbers for Norton Grinding Wheels

38A AO Type 1 Toolroom Wheel >4" | Norton Abrasives So looking at that wheel, it has a 5/8" arbour and I need a 1/2" size. But then it doesn't say if it's for finishing or roughing. Some say they are ideal for cutting metals fast, so I would assume those are a coarse grit. However there is no...

Need Help Finding Part Numbers for Norton Grinding Wheels

Looking to purchase 80 and 120 grit aluminum oxide 6" diameter, 3/4" in width Norton grinding wheels for sharpening HSS lathe tool bits. The place I'm dealing with locally was requesting part numbers, however I'm having a bit of a problem finding them on their website. Any chance someone may...

    Issues Ordering from Starrett

UPDATE: So contacted them through their website (finally their form was working) and they said they do not ship to Canada or sell to the end user. They gave me a couple retailers closer to me. Contacted the one and it was a $100 more than what I could find from an online source after shipping...

    Issues Ordering from Starrett

They have a whole saw set I'm after, but no one seems to carry it. I called Fastenal and Acklands Grainger, both places don't stock it and can't order it. Any online distributors I've found, if they do carry the set, it's $150 more than what it's listed on Starrett for. I send them an email, but...

    Issues Ordering from Starrett

Anyone else have issues ordering ordering from Starrett's website? Trying to place an order for a couple items and I can't select Canada as my region or for the billing and shipping info. So I tried to call their toll free number and I get this message "this number is not available in your area".

    Buying a SouthBend

I actually just bought my South Bend 9a about a week ago. After doing extensive research and which small lathe would be the best bang for your buck, this was the one I found personally. Apparently the South Bend 9 is the original, all others were seen as copies. I was also considering a Logan...

Just bought a South Bend 9a!

Don't think I'll be using it too much at the moment as it's getting cold and there's no heater in the shed. I definitely have some Kroil on hand. I would like to take the carriage off to clean it. What are your thoughts of using a hand impact driver to loosen the apron fasteners??? Can the...

    Synthetic oil, good or bad?

This is what I've found here so far, still looking. This is the Type A spindle oil. Required as per what is posted on the forum: http://www.ulei-mobil.ro/pdf/MobilIndustrieDataSheet/Velocite%20Oil%20Numbered%20Series%20pds.pdf Amsoil: http://www.amsoil.com/lit/databulletins/g28.pdf

    Synthetic oil, good or bad?

I was looking at the oils required for the Type A, B, and C which just appears to be a conventional oil. So if I was able to find a suitable replacement from Amsoil (been happy with their products, just a personal preference), would it be okay to switch over without having any issues? I'm just...

    Synthetic oil, good or bad?

Just happened to get my Amsoil catalogue today, but this did cross my mind before about using a full synthetic lubricant. It's far superior in every aspect. So is anyone out there using synthetic oil? Sure it may sound like overkill but if it's able to reduce friction, still provides lubrication...

Just bought a South Bend 9a!

Just want to confirm these things too... One is to put the tailstock off center, but it has a blunt end and I haven't found what is intended to be installed on the end. The other I did manage to get working, it was stuck. It's a runout garage I'm guessing? The tool post slide has a tight...

Just bought a South Bend 9a!

Thanks for the replies guys :) The stand is actually an "L" shape and there is a significant amount of weight on the backside where the motor and pulley assembly side. It's made of 1/4" steel, the legs flare out on the bottom, the stand on it's own is quite heavy. The only thing I need to add...

Just bought a South Bend 9a!

Just bought a South Bend 9a 48" lathe. Surprisingly I wasn't looking too long, wanted a company that built a reputable machine after searching through other units of a similar size. Originally I wanted a mill but that apparently was impossible to find a bench top unit, especially not wanting to...

I tried to send you a PM but can't as your inbox is full. How much are you asking for the Pratt Whitney mill? I just realized it's a mini mill.

    Best Bench Top Mill???

It even crossed my mind to get the Emco milling attachment and retrofit it onto a slightly larger well build lathe. But it might be hard trying to get everything true. Any thoughts on that idea??? I see there is the odd lathe that has had this done. That Pratt & Whitney is still big for the...

    Best Bench Top Mill???

Sorry for the late reply everyone... Managed to get a cold in the meantime, such bad timing. So that boring jig ended up selling for $700, definitely not the most affordable route if it needs to be restored. But I did have a rather wacky idea, what is I retrofitted a vertical bed on a lathe...

    Best Bench Top Mill???

That is perfect! Now the big question is can that be converted from 3 phase to single phase 110v??? It's about a 10hr drive for me, so I'll have to look into shipping too.
