    3D Work on Siemens 810D?

I've been setting up a Siemens 810D mill in our workshop (we've had it a long time but only just got round to running it). I've got it networked and I can transfer files between to it but I am still limited by space. It has about 800kb of free space. Reading this thread seems like it is...

    Siemens 810D Tool Change Position

Highly likely this was user error. We had a technician in to look at one of our other machines and I asked him about this problem. Turns out (not being overly familiar with the control) I was going tot he T,S,M page and selecting a tool number without also putting a 6 in the "Other M Factor" box...

    Siemens 810D Tool Change Position

Thanks for the responses. It seems I'm not the only one struggling with the control. I did try changing one of the MD numbers I think it was MD34090 not MD34100 though this caused the Z to over travel on the referencing procedure. I even had the machine manufacturer send me their procedure...

    Siemens 810D Tool Change Position

I have a mini mill with Siemens 810D control. We had it for quite a few years but never got round to using it (long story). I'm spending some time now to try and get it running but I have an issue where by the machine isn't quite going to the correct Z position for a tool change. I can't...

    Sketchup vs Fusion 360

I'd vote for Fusion but I don't have any experience with SketchUp. I've been using Fusion for a little over 18 months. Previously (and still) an experienced Solidworks user. I got Fusion for the CAM capabilities but have since started using it more and more for the design side. I'm pretty...

    Siemens 810D Controller on Network

Hello All, I hope I am posting to the right place. I want to know if anyone has a Siemens 810D running on a network, I opened ours up and tried to get it to connect to the network without any joy. I did a lot of searching and couldn't find any reference to it so I'm not sure it is possible...

Thank you, that's exactly what I was after!

Setting Offsets (G54) in ShopTurn with 810D

Thanks for the responses. TRANS puts an offset into the program only which will probably work. I was hoping to be able to set my work offset (G54) from the program and it stay set even after the program ends. SIM, G58 doesn't do anything, is G58 the work offset that you use or do you use G58...

Setting Offsets (G54) in ShopTurn with 810D

Edit: I meant to write "Siemens 810D Control" in title. Doesn't look like it's possible to edit titles. Hi All New to post here but been here for a while. For a while now I've been trying to workout if there is a GCode line I can use to set the work offset with ShopTurn on a Siemens 810D...

LM25 Aluminium Wearing Out My Tools

The face milling is rubbish and has been our biggest problem! That is not a finished face so I've been wearing the tips down more than I would normally. We suspected the aluminium might be soft too but with did a simple hardness test on it and it was as hard as any of our other castings we deal...

LM25 Aluminium Wearing Out My Tools

For those interested. I've attached a picture of one of the bores. The finish is terrible I put the tool in new this morning and it's cut 40 of those bores. I rough with a different cutter so it's just doing a small cut on the bores to get them to size. The first one it cuts has a much better...

LM25 Aluminium Wearing Out My Tools

Thanks for all your responses. I don't know too much about metallurgy or castings however the harder spots of silicon is what I suspected could be the cause. There definitely isn't any sand left in the surface. It's a shame I machine castings from other foundries and get much better results...

LM25 Aluminium Wearing Out My Tools

Hello All I'm new to the forums and I am trying to find some advice on machining cast aluminium LM25 (I believe it has around 7% Silicon content). I've been machining a load of new cylinder head castings but I am finding my tools are wearing out very quickly with this material. I have machined...

    New Shouldermill Korloy Pro-X?

Hello I am new to the forum and joined because I wanted to see if anyone had experience with Korloy and Pro-X mills. I have been looking at them on Cutwel and wanted to get some reviews for them. What do people make of Korloy are they worth buying? We have a 12000rpm machine that mainly does...
