    The finished axle. I used cold finished pre-hard 4140 and didn't find it difficult at all to machine. The tricky part was making the squares without tapering them. It probably isn't perfect but then none of the original parts of this car are.

    I suspect your belt is too long. I have the same problem with my #2...I made a belt for it but didn't have an original belt to copy.

    Well...I've been using my Starrett power hacksaw for at least 20 years and it survived 10 years outdoors before I cleaned it up. I haven't noticed any vibration but over a few months it will "walk" a bit and I have to push it back into place.
