I keep hearing that this winter will be bad for manufacturing in Europe.

Yup. ask Seymour and me, and we can tell you a thing or two about the soviet rule. If you knew, you would all think twice and hard about supporting anyone with even a little tinge of authoritarianism.

Well, not exactly. At least Syria is in the general area and harbored Islamic terrorists. Unless you can conjure up some way to include Russia, PLAW 107-40 does not apply. https://www.congress.gov/107/plaws/publ40/PLAW-107publ40.pdf I am pretty sure that Putin's support of Assad is a stretch...

No, but it may become unavoidable if the Baltics, Poland, Romania, or any other NATO allies get attacked by Russia. If the fight remains in Ukraine, the US can avoid deploying troops.

The Iraq and Afghan wars lasted 20 years. The total cost was $2.4 trillion, or about 120 billion/per year, on top of the Pentagon budget. It is funny accounting, but the 2.4 trillion did not go to the Afganies or the Iraqis. Most of it went to US companies for arms, logistics supplies, and...

Not sure I expect the Austrians to invade Sopron just because they want to recreate an empire. If there is a horde of Austrians there, it is most likely for dental care or a hairdo.

Some pundits like to make excuses for the Russian aggression toward Ukraine. The truth is that Russia lost control of the Ukrainian government after 2005 and thoroughly after Maidan in 2013. That fact is the impetus for the annexation of Crimea, the Dombas, and the war. NATO, Gasprom, etc. is...

The national debt is not like a mortgage. It is an entirely different beast. It is more like the income-to-debt ratio of a corporation on an accrual basis. I am not an economist, but I know that many pundits like to scare the bejesus out of people with the number without context.

Yeah...disputes in payments, but not diverting the gas....i.e., stealing it from the E.U. Also, the E.U. courts have ruled in favor of the R.F. in most disputes, which is hardly a cause to invade a country.

Because Poland is a part of NATO...Ru is not fairing well against NATO weapons and a smaller army using NATO warfighting tactics. And then there Is that pesky article 5. Diverted gas? According to who? Where is the proof?

Stop freaking out; nukes from Russia are most likely saber rattling...... I believe if they try it, Spootine will be dead before the first explosion in the US, and he knows it

Paolo, I do not recall the jig with the balls. We saw the ladder gauges but not the ones with the ceramic balls. That is an interesting gadget, I wonder how they calibrate that :)

It is not Russia who got it wrong; Pootine got it wrong. We and the west have diplomats, and Russia has kleptocrat thugs parading as statesmen. What is there to negotiate? The UN? The UN has no teeth. Russia takes them home every night because they have veto power on everything.

Uhm, I think you are mixing things up. The US might have something to do with the 2013 uprising and the election of Poroshenko. By the time Zelensky was elected, Trump already had a hard-on about Ukraine. Not sure he would have sent agents to support him.

We should all agree that Crimea is a complicated history and was always contested territory. It is impossible to postulate the outcome of a genuinely free referendum before 2014, and one thing is sure the one taken after little green men was a sham. Territory' history is never a good predictor...
