Another G&E 1928 Gould & Eberhardt 20" Standard Shaper Saved

Scott’s Bluff? I enjoy my G&E 14” universal, but don’t use it so often as I should. Was demonstrating it to visitors this weekend and I’d kinda forgot which lever did what!

Looking for an old workbench to mount a lathe too, Tulsa, OK area.

Haven’t bought any recently, but Menards sells edge glued oak work bench tops at a reasonable price. Do what’s convenient for legs, and when/if you find the perfect set, swap them out.

    Hendey Lathe No2x42 Carriage Removal

Should be strait forward. Disconnect lead screw and control rods on both ends and hunt for fasteners till the carriage falls into the chip pan. Ideally, a short fall onto blocks you placed there.

    19”x42” Cincinnati hydrashift lathe

The Hydrashifts in general are perfectly good lathes. Semi-modern, middle weight, general purpose machines. IF it’s a good one you’d like it. Worries me the end cover is gone.

I Would like to get information on this Hendey lathe that is in an auction.

General neighborhood of 3,500lbs. They are pretty swoopy looking with the torpedo shaped headstocks. Briefly owned one just like it, and still have a DC drive version in cold storage waiting for a VFD and bed grind……maybe someone will get to it.

Tips wanted from Horizontal mill wizzards.

Yes! I had a Nichols rapidly wop me in the thinker once….was paying more attention to touching off than to the whole climb cut vs. conventional issue.

    Buffalo Iron Worker

It’s been a long time, but there is some sort of a block with a few setscrews behind the cover above the punch. It’s related to the stripper/alignment lever interaction. I had to recreate this block on my #1/2 based on a fuzzy photo copy and pure guesswork. I’ll try to go through my Buffalo...

Weight of Cinci #3 combination mill

Slinging the overarm is fine. Sounds like you have more than one forklift? Share the lift with a beam, drive the truck out, etc, etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Can’t see how Chuck couples to this Cinci Dividing Head!

I’d bet previous owner had L00 chucks to share from his lathe. He could have just as well cut a backplate as an adaptor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Snapped a picture of mine. I see the nose ring is attached with screws. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

OT: Anyone here military or know about underground bunkers? Looking to build.

A bridge building company near here has a two story shop built into a side hill. Kind of like a house with walkout basement. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Can’t see how Chuck couples to this Cinci Dividing Head!

My Cinci DH has a threaded spindle nose. 2”-8 maybe? Have to look…. That kinda looks like a L adapter screwed onto the DH. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Variable belt drive vs a gearbox

Horse power is a rpm times torque function. A VFD will hold torque constant so power varies with rpm. A mechanical speed reduction (gear or belt) holds power constant so torque increases as rpm decreases. FWIW-A modern John Deere combine puts 300 or more HP to the threshing rotor through a...

    USMachine Tool Horizontal Mill

FWIW, this less appealing hand mill just sold on Big Iron in the Nebraska Sandhills for $370. Listing it as a “key way cutter” was probably good, if accidental, marketing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

1958 Cincinatti #3 MI with 3HP independent Overhead Spindle

LPS 3 and a breathable drop cloth if the roof is good. WD-40 is more solvent than preservative. Lots of better choices. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

WTB facing slide for 4" HBM

Had a nice chat with Garwood-we’re staying in touch, but he is still looking. Me finding a lighter slide more appropriate for a 3” machine would grease the skids. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
