10L QC Gearbox Bushing Question (Single Tumbler)

No gits, just an open hole. Stick the tip of oil squirt can in and shoot in. Position tumbler under the tube, and let oil drip onto tumbler gear.

10L QC Gearbox Bushing Question (Single Tumbler)

It is possible, some might come out with some nudging from a pry bar or screw driver from the interior as well. Though I'd remove and re-install one bearing at a time if this way. One downside, you won't be cleaning up, or truing the mating shaft journals, if this way. . . Though no doubt...

10L QC Gearbox Bushing Question (Single Tumbler)

Another tactic that may work for you. Bore and bush the existing bearings. This would allow you to keep existing features for keys, screw slots, etc. A different machine, but similar issues. I had wore out bushings: The shaft in this case, was both ends of a worm gear: I first cleaned up...

Southbend 10 won’t turn on certain cone pulleys.

Could be motor, or electrical. While its "not moving" (spindle), is the electric motor's pully spinning ? And with electric and motor shut off, but flat belt engaged, can you spin the chuck ? Takes more effort with belt engaged, but can yo roll it ?

    gIsholt 3L Age

Can you post some pics of front and sides ? Serial number records might be iffy. But some features and physical attributes might narrow it down.

Southbend 10 won’t turn on certain cone pulleys.

The small cone, on spindle itself, is your top speed. Because the spindle is the driven portion here, if any belt slippage, I would expect it to be the flat that slips. ie, more speed less belt contact. Just as a first check, your spindle rolls nice by hand with belt tension removed, correct ...

60's model 10EE knob and handle plating

I would guess a chrome finish of some sort on dials originally. I love the look of chrome or highly polished white metal. However its tough on the eyes during use. Overhead shop lights usually put a glare right at 12 oclock where the zero marker is, making numbers and marks a little more...

An unpleasant surprise in my Pratt & Whitney 12C

You might try contacting tailstock4 for either parts or atleast info. He's pretty knowledgeable about these. His restore thread on a 12c: Pratt & Whitney 12c Restore Photos A parts book you probably have: http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/detail.aspx?id=20054 and the pdf link...

    First Lathe: 1942 Monarch 14C

My 12ckk has leadscrew reverse on headstock only. The rod and apron levers for leadscrew reverse are for "toolroom" lathes. Mine is not, though it did come with taper attachment.

On a 1956 series 61 the cam lobe is on the opposite side of gear. Also just slightly elliptical. The camera view of all my headstock pics, its out of view, but I circled where its located. Also circled is the pivot point for the reaction arm to the bijur oil pump.

    First Lathe: 1942 Monarch 14C

A little more about the electrical reverse that has been discussed. Not impossible a war time restriction on parts and features. Note page 2 of a 1944 brochure: From this pub: http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/detail.aspx?id=19730 My 1946 12ckk has electric reverse, push button controls...

WTB Monarch Series 61 13x30, need some input.

Not sure I'd push it to 1700-2000 rpm. A 13" can go a little faster than a 16" with smaller headstock and gearing, 1200-1500 maybe. But you'll be gaining quite a bit of weight and rigidity I'd expect, they are pretty heavy machines. I wouldn't get too hung up on speeds. All the South Bends run...

Lead Screw install on a Monarch 60

I didn't fully take my bearing assembly apart. One, I felt like I was going to destroy something, but the other was the bearings spun nice and felt right. During the course I did take pics, including a parts pic that I circled for reasons I can't remember :D . But maybe the pics will help in...

    10ee cross slide lube upgrade

The bolts have a square end on bottom side that rides in the slot. That square is not very big and grabs a small portion of the cast iron of crosslide. With these machines being very old, sometimes the cast iron gets tore up from the small square head of bolt. By making an arch tee slot nut...

    10ee cross slide lube upgrade

For your 2 compound locking bolts. A project I intend is making something like tee slot nuts that you use on a milling machine table. Except the nuts will be curved to fit into the circle of cross slide, that compound will sit on. Then use 2 threaded studs, instead of bolts. With 2 nuts top side...

    10ee cross slide lube upgrade

To the op, I'd ask for some clarification. I could be me :D , but you you wrote a lot of info, and in some parts you said compound, and meant cross slide maybe, or not. . . for me its hard to tell. To simplify a little, maybe post one detail at a time. As stated by others, yes you can support...

    Smaller quantities of shim stock

You don't necessarily need it a continuous length either. One reason they become banana shaped is they get wore at either end, while the middle not so much. If you get the gib straight-ish, and putting shims on adjusting screw side. . . Putting a shim lets say 4" or 5" long on each end of gib...
