Raising rates/Inflation what have you done?

Just curious of the median. I haven't raised shop rates since before the virus ($75.00HR) was thinking that since inflation is about 14% in that time and we have a lot of work and funds, I would raise rates 10% purely to keep more correct with the economy numbers, even though we don't "need" the...

Highfeed endmill for aluminum (Long Skinny Tooling)

Also, to the Ops question for opinions, my opinion on a hi-feed cutter, especially indexable hi-feed cutter in non-ferrous- I haven't had an issue using standard(not hi-feed) non-ferrous indexables for radial cutting, even though they are more designed for axial cutting usually. Have even been...

    Need a new drill manufacturer/supplier?

I looked at Vikings catalog, looked like they stamp the specs on all their drills, I dont like to buy drills that are stamped, then we have to hit that area with a deburr wheel because it does stick up. prefer laser etched.

    Need a new drill manufacturer/supplier?

We have been using Wedevag drills for the past 5 years, Now I hear they got bought out, and the new owner bankrupted the company. I really liked their drills, We do all Aluminum and used their Cobalt TiN coated. The main reason I liked them, was for small machines, their screw flute length was...

    Haas mill air treatment?

My post is 2 years old, that regulator is a POS, I had one at home go out, and 2 at the shop go out. I bought a real regulator, that has replaceable parts for maintenance. No more issues. Parker Industrial Air Regulator

What is you shop's overhead increase in the last year?

The main reason(my opinion) a mechanic shop, plumber, electrician, HVAC tech....Can charge more than a machine shop is because none of that work can be outsourced to China! The second reason is, the "true value of the service", Everyone, is a large demographic, and the demographic that needs...

What is you shop's overhead increase in the last year?

Its very interesting too hear the differences in machine shops, pricing, overhead costs, work volumes and types......There are different types of machine shops sure, but its crazy how different everything can be.

5 Axis purchase, yes or no?

Yeah looks like the U500 is the better choice, and cheaper, here is what Yamazen said: " Biggest considerations for M vs U: Price (U is similar or better) Floorspace (U is better) Milling capability (U is better because it’s a more rigid set up) Control (U has the new D-00 control and the M has...

5 Axis purchase, yes or no?

Our constant volume work has 2 different part assemblies. One assembly would be fine, but, The one we make all day every day on 3 machines is 3 different pair of 1.5" round bars 24" long with machining on 3 sides. it would take far more than a single rotating table machine to replace them, each...

5 Axis purchase, yes or no?

Interesting, I found the pre-install sheet on a Makino 400mm HMC, it says "standard 6" commercial concrete floor is fine", but on the Mazak generic horizontal preinstall sheet I got from Mazak it shows 20" of concrete. good times.

5 Axis purchase, yes or no?

I'm still dreamin anyway, we don't have room for a HMC :(, we have just enough room for one more small machine, after that, no more machines until we move to somewhere real, Hopefully that will be soon, I'm hoping to pay off my house and this years machines by end of summer, current PO's show...

5 Axis purchase, yes or no?

I had a Haas MiniMill in a garage with a floating concrete floor(500sq.ft.) it was 14" thick, no issues with surface finish. Moved it to a commercial shop with 4" floors, now we get surface finish issues, So I don't think Ill ever buy into the old, its ok to have thin floors deal again, just my...

5 Axis purchase, yes or no?

5 Axis purchase, yes or no?

I'll never buy another Haas machine!!!!! people stating the high ROI don't know what their talking about, but also its contextual, I would have made far more money faster and easier if I would have bought more expensive machines with better more expensive engineering, the main reasoning chip...

5 Axis purchase, yes or no?

Actually this would be my first choice, The end game is how much money in parts can 2 guys create without having to hire anyone. So we have a set of parts that would easily work on a 4 axis horizontal, they chew up a week on 2 machines, I am eyeballing a Mazak HCN-5000 with a future linear...

5 Axis purchase, yes or no?

Yeah I was still debating on that U500, I haven't put in the time researching yet that you probably have. I am not so worried about the learning curve, its more so, will I actually get the benefit I'm looking for.

5 Axis purchase, yes or no?

Luckily cycle time on those would be over 4 min. and we usually have a month to get them done because the PO's are just to fill in stock as it lowers at the OEM. I cant look into the adding a 4th to one of the Haas's machines we have currently because they have zero free time already, that's...
