Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

It says 7.5hp for single phase, but it also says 45amp. If my single phase 10hp motor is 39amp at FLC is this safe to use, assuming I change the heaters? Yes I am positive. I loaded the compressor onto my truck and took it to a shop with a 75hp RPC and it runs flawlessly. That is ultimately...

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

Yes sir I ran 4/0 aluminum to the shop and a 200amp sub panel. Got a new meter. I called american rotary after I was still unsuccessful and they specifically told me that my model will not start a 10 hp compressor without purchasing about $800 worth of equipment to turn it into the “hard...

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

Still no luck, I even brought a friends known working compressor over, same exact model, and it will not start. It's definitely the phase converter being under powered..

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

I believe you’ve hit the nail on the head! Incoming power to starter is 141v between L1 and L2, 215v between L1 and L3, 141 between 2 and 3. Load terminals to the motor are slightly lower. Wiring it temporarily with #4/0 (0000) AWG aluminum and if that’s the case, I’ll buy the proper copper...

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

Low voltage under load would indicate the RPC being the culprit? All connections are good on the service and the RPC, also RPC to the load center. I will test the under load voltage tomorrow and report back my findings.

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

Just a multimeter and an amp meter. The motor runs great unloaded, could there be a problem with the motor or is the RPC underpowered?

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

I disconnected my sub panel and fed the compressor directly from the phase converter, ensuring that the wild leg was feeding L2 on the compressor starter. Not getting chatter, but the motor is turning slow still

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

***White wire with purple marking is the manufactured leg from the phase converter

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

Okay I double checked all my wiring, I am 100% positive everything is wired exactly to your schematic. I also disconnected all windings and tested them in star configuration for low voltage. - No shorts to ground from any lead. - T1-4 = 0.3 ohms - T2-5 = 0.3 ohms - T3-6 = 0.3 ohms - T7-8 =...

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

The generated leg is not connected to the control circuit in any way, I’ve confirmed that and read back through this thread again, performing all tests. Does it make sense that the motor can run perfectly unloaded and start with the starter but not act properly under load? I’m going to test the...

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

Nope still unsolved.. I'm getting the proper 240 volts at the motor, verified again that the motor is wired for low voltage, all connections are ran as per the wiring diagram on the motor starter circuit. It's spinning really slow, not dimming my lights or anything, not tripping the breaker...

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

A little update on this issue to show that I haven't disappeared. Just got the shop powered back up yesterday after upgrading my service and panel to 200 amps, now currently running the phase converter on a 100 amp breaker fed with 3AWG conductors. I took a video upon starting the compressor, I...

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

I do have an unloader valve, but not a time delay. I think the problem is definitely the breaker size supplying the rotary converter. I called American Rotary and they told me not to go higher than an 80 amp on the AD20 model converter. This conflicts with what I have read and been told in this...

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

Okay, I will give them a call and see what they recommend, I’m sure there’s some wiggle room since I’m at the minimum. The fact that it started at least gives me some hope that I won’t have to upgrade RPC’s. I might end up with a 40 HP vfd from automation direct if all else fails. Their...

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

The chart in my operators manual says minimum breaker size 60amp, does this mean I can safely up that to a 125 amp? I'm not familiar with PAM, forgive me I'm very new to all of this! The chart in my operators manual says minimum breaker size 60amp but does not list a maximum breaker size for...

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

Well one problem taken care of, another one happens.. My phase converter is a 20HP American Rotary, it’s fed from a 60 amp breaker. Upon first starting the compressor with no other equipment running the breaker kicked after about 5 seconds. The motor was barely turning the pump over.. I guess I...

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

I did switch those 2 legs as the motor was running backward. The Generated leg is the white wire which is now L2, I don’t mark them with orange tape but every machine in my shop is the same. I will rewire this entire starter and pressure switch and clean every terminal up before putting this...

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

Thank you everybody for your help!! Especially SAF with the dirty magnet idea. Cleaning the magnet and coil off did the trick!

Air compressor contactor/wiring problem. Need help please!

Is there something I should be doing where the low-oil level protector device was plugged into the pressure switch? Jumper those 2 open terminals or leave as is?
