Twin turret turning offset between heads

I'm assuming you're talking about "twin-turning". The greater the offset, the longer your cycle will take because you have to wait for the second tool to finish, which started at a further distance away. So if speed is your goal, run the two tools with as little offset as possible. Your second...

    Census Bureau for Business

The cover letter for the census that I received states "Your response is required by law". How am I to interpret that other than that my response is required by law? Also, where are you getting your claim that this was started in 2015? Here's a good read about the history of the economic...

    Census Bureau for Business

I filled out that census you linked to last fall. This new one that some of us have is the five-year economic census. See here: https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/economic-census/year/2022/2022-main.html This current census is very time-consuming compared to that other one. The back of the...

    Milling/turning plastics with Ionizer

If you can direct an air blow at the tool, have you considered having a vacuum sucking the chips at the tool? Seal-cutting lathes use the vacuum idea. See the video.

Fanuc "Not 0" Control on VMC's?

Ox just has to keep in mind that those builders have all been known to put their own skins on controls, so they might not have the look/feel he's used to. A Mori SV-50 like you mentioned probably has a pretty normal-looking Fanuc control, though.

Fanuc "Not 0" Control on VMC's?

I have machines with wear and geometry offsets that I'm pretty sure are 0T-B controls. I'm not sure of any differences in editing between the 0T-C and 0T-B controls. To the operator, they look the same.

Fanuc "Not 0" Control on VMC's?

    That's interesting. Good find. I don't think I've ever seen a 15i control.

Drills breaking drilling through Grade 5 bolts

Yes, of course rolled threads are better. But we don't know if the customer actually needs that extra goodness. In my experience, a lot of times that a customer wants to modify some hardware, it's because they think that's easiest, cheapest, or it's just how their brain works. They need a bolt...

Drills breaking drilling through Grade 5 bolts

Can you drill half way, flip it, and drill the other side? I'd much rather make a bolt from scratch than modify cold-headed hardware.

16C to 5C Collet Adapter Not Working with Hydraulic Draw Bar

I have been using those adapters for years. 1" stroke is more than enough. As Skubeesnak said, just screw in your adapter more, or screw your collet into the adapter more. If it still doesn't work, something isn't right. It looks like you are using an imported collet. Sometimes those don't have...

    Recommendations on robot grippers

This isn't for just one job. We are going to try to robot-load as many of our parts as we can. It's a wide variety of shapes. The reason we started looking at a robot was due to a spike in the usage of some aluminum valve bodies we make. They're about 1" x 2" x 3" blocks. But there are a variety...

    Recommendations on robot grippers

No, I mean the end of arm tool (EOAT) that mounts to the robot-- the "hand". Most of our work will be loading into a vise or 3-jaw chuck mounted on a 4th axis trunnion. The parts will be smallish. The max load on the robot is 6 kg, and they're going into a 30 taper drill/tap, so they can't be...

    Recommendations on robot grippers

We're getting close to pulling the trigger on a small robot for loading a Brother drill/tap. What do people recommend for grippers in this application? It's our first time with a robot, so we are looking for as much input from others as we can get.

    Boring Inserts Chipping Premature

Is this a blind hole? Maybe chips are packing up down there, and you're hitting them. Can you drill deeper to make room for chips? Or program a low rpm wash out after your rough pass?

Experience with Epson VT6L robot for machine tending?

That's pretty much what we're finding. I'm just wondering how durable the robot is in machine tending application.

New To Me Miyano BND-42S5 on the way- bar feeder question…

My machine is a BNC-34S, so it has smaller bar capacity, is an older generation, and doesn't have live tooling. Otherwise, it's pretty similar, I think. I regularly run a job that is a little over 6" long in it. I have to be careful when turning on the sub with a double turning holder that I...

Experience with Epson VT6L robot for machine tending?

Does anyone have experience with the Epson VT6L robot for machine tending? We are looking to add a robot to load parts in a VMC. It would most likely go on one of our Brothers. We have gotten some quotes on custom installations using this robot, and the price is attractive. So far, the only...
