Johansson & his gauge blocks *big slow pics*

That's pretty cool that your great, great grandfather was Sven. I was just reading about him here: A.A Jansson - About / History I recently purchased a set of vintage Gauge Blocks made by Jansson Gage Co. Ray

    WTB: Dalton Lot 4 lathe

Thanks! I contacted that person, but didn't have much luck. Thanks John. I sent you a PM just now. Ray

    WTB: Dalton Lot 4 lathe

Spent a couple of hours talking to the guy in Maine with the Dalton and getting photos, etc. It's a B-4 lot 3. It's not in terrible condition, but a bit more of a project than I'm wanting to add to my todo list right now (I'm also really seeking a lot 4, not a lot 3). The lathe in Maine had some...

    WTB: Dalton Lot 4 lathe

ok thanks. I just got off the phone with the guy in Maine. I'm checking out the differences on the lathe, but may pick it up. Thanks for the heads up on that! Ray

    WTB: Dalton Lot 4 lathe

Okay thanks! I'll check that out. I was reading about the Dalton on the UK lathe site a few nights ago; I'm not sure if the lot 3 is something I would be interested in or not. From what I could see via the write up, I believe the Lot 4 is what I'm searching for. I'm still researching. Thanks...

    WTB: Dalton Lot 4 lathe

Thanks Mike! Yup, I have it on my watch list ;-) I spoke with the owner via ebay a few days ago. I think he's hoping for get between $500 and $1000+ for that lathe - and seems a bit more interested in a local sale. I may put up a bid, but I was really looking for something already restored if...

    WTB: Dalton Lot 4 lathe

Hi guys, I'm seeking a Dalton lathe - the smaller, Lot 4 size one. Ideally fully restored or in very good restore-able condition. Feel free to contact me via PM here. Thanks! Ray

    Metal etched tag restoration

Thanks for the info Rich. I'm thinking I may try something along those lines all right. An old friend of mine just gave me a nice 12x18 Starrett granite surface plate the other day, so I may see about using that. However, I really like the diamond knife sharpening plate idea also. I have two...

    Metal etched tag restoration

I was doing a little more research and found this video tonight on youtube. I think this is probably the process which was used on the original Clausing 8520 metal tag. The issue now, of course, is trying to get paint back into the etched areas, without the resist part of the tag being there...

ER40 collet via MT2 adapter - any problems with this idea?

Man oh man.. that's beautiful! Nice job. Can I ask what color paint that is (and what type?). That's one of the colors I was thinking about painting mine. Also, did you strip down the original paint or just sand and paint over it? I'm still working on mine. I have a series of videos on...

    WTB: Clausing 8520 mill

I would try listing it on Craigslist. You should be able to find someone to buy it that way. I think I would power wash it first and try to remove some of the dirt, so that potential buyers can see what they are dealing with. Just be sure to dry it well with compressed air and chase the water...

    WTB: Clausing 8520 mill

BTW, I wanted to mention that someone contacted me via e-mail (off this thread) saying they had a Clausing 8520 mill for sale in the UK. They were asking $1450 including shipping. The person went by the name of Raymond Webb with an e-mail address of: [email protected]. They included...

    WTB: Clausing 8520 mill

If you don't have to pay someone to haul that way, I'll be impressed :-) All kidding aside, I think you are probably looking at around $500 tops. Ray

    Question for Clausing 8520 owners

Does anyone have a good source for brass push button oilers that can be used to replace the ones on the Clausing 8520 oil passages? I've seen photos where people have installed some nice brass looking ones. I'd like to pull mine out and install the brass ones, but I'm having a difficult time...

    WTB: Clausing 8520 mill

All good points. The 8520 tends to be more popular because the spindle is MT2. As Steve mentioned above, 8525 is the same machine, but with a B&S7 taper. The 8520 comes apart readily and can easily be handled by two people. You can unbolt the head assembly from the column and easily lift it...

    WTB: Clausing 8520 mill

Just depends on the condition and what comes with it. For one which needs a lot of restoration, you may be looking at around $800 to $1000. For good to very good condition, maybe $1500 to $1800 or so. For ones which are very clean and in excellent shape, about $2000 to $2500. If it's been fully...

    Metal etched tag restoration

I contacted Clausing, but they no longer supply them. I'll check with them again and see if they might know the original source. However, the mill was produced in 1966, so we are talking 45 years ago. I may try hand painting it and see what sort of luck I have. Ray

    Lead screw vs. ball screw

okay thanks! I do hear people say you can use the controls of the CNC for manual work (and I have seen it in action also), but it would be nice to still have the cranks I think. Is it impossible to use the cranks with ball screws? The main issue I have with CNC'ing the 8520 Clausing is that...

    Metal etched tag restoration

Okay... here's the latest issue on my clausing 8520 mill restoration. So the other night, my friend and I are cleaning up the mill. We are using B-12 chemtool on a foil label and some of it drips down and eats off the paint on my perfect condition Serial number tag (this is the tag riveted to...
