While waiting to work out a deal on a Makino U6 Heat - we have a very tempting proposal from GF for a new Cut 550 P ( Swiss machine).
Does anyone here have experience or option on this machine vs. the Makino?
Many thanks !
Wow Cameraman - you’re an economist too! Many thanks for your perspective.
We are leaning Makino with additional significant discount offered if we place order today - they have had a 5% price increase - but key for us is availability and to not take a chance on future higher prices and delays...
We’re looking to buy a Makino U6 Heat wire EDM. We got a quote just under $200k (13% off) delivered - when researching recent used sales I am seeing used prices for this machine at $115 to $136k and a dealer in England is offering new ones for 109 British pounds or about $145k in today’s...
Thank you Markz -- I found out that Renishaw sells a kit of Macros for Okuma lathes (part# A-4016-1056) that can be purchased from Okuma or Renishaw.
Now I just need to find out how to attached the radio sensor RMI-Q to the Okuma controller. Still don't know if I can be a direct hook up to a...
We would like to add a Renishaw RL40P and RMI-Q probe package to our Okuma L3000. Has anyone else done this?
What additional software for OSP300 control is needed?
Can the RMI-Q receiver be interfaced to the control with additional hardware?
Thanks for any input! :)
Thanks for everyone's input -- We just placed an order for the Mazak Variaxis I-600 which arrives this fall. It has the new Smooth X control and is loaded coming in well under our budget and $20K under a 9 month old demo DMU 50. With price and specs it was no contest.
Now going to order a bunch...

Many thanks for the links to detail info on your purchases. Looks like you know to negotiate a great deal.
Is the MX-520 true 5 axis or 4+1?
We plan to sell our M460 and deliver in October. Great machine used for R&D with with low spindle hours.
I am thinking the same thing. DMG claims their DMU 50 has a 21"+ bearing on the rear versus two maybe six inch bearings on both sides. Mazak uses a roller cam gear on rotary axis with no backlash.
Funny though, the $500K DMG DMU 65 Monoblock uses a table supported on two sides.
We love Okuma -- it was out first consideration until salesman quoted us $450K minus some to be determined discount
I'll ask the DMG Mori salesman for a quote on the NMV-DCG though -- thanks
Thanks for the valuable input guys!
Wow -- is it possible to get a Hermle CU22 for $300K??? Or Matsuura MX-520?
The problem for us with the DMG Mori salesman is he has not offered any real discount (only 5% off) on their new machines. So a quote NMV-3000 or 5000 -- it will near full retail...
The DMG Mori salesman makes a big deal about having glass scales standard of all axis. It's a very expensive option on Mazak but their machine is 3x the weight of the DMG and is a bridge style so maybe scales are not necessary. It was never an issue not having this on our Okuma. :willy_nilly:
