    OFHC Copper Part RFQ

… Would it help to omit the countersink entirely?

    OFHC Copper Part RFQ

Dear Vincent- I have attached a zipped *.IGES file. Could zipping the original file be the problem, I wonder? Whenever I was trying to design stuff in the past, it worked best when I could partner with a sympathetic machinist. I would start with an initial (gewfy) sketch that the machinist...

    OFHC Copper Part RFQ

I will work on that, Vincent. That countersink doesn’t have a critical depth, except that it needs to be there and “look good.” In the past when I made these type of things, I would end up with cosmetic problems if I tried to “fine tune” the countersink depth. I don’t want a sharp edge, I...

    OFHC Copper Part RFQ

Hello Practical Machinists! I have been retired for a few years, but an old colleague of mine asked for help on a project. So, I need a part made, but I don't have a shop! The part in question is to be made from 1/4 inch OFHC copper plate. I have attached a couple files of it. Thanks for...

New member, new to me M-head owner

Skip, I don't recall the dimensions of the different M-head tapers (there were three, at least) but you can Google them. Start with B&S 7 and "B3". I've a 110V 1ph motor on my round ram, and I would prefer the 3 phase with VFD instead of messing with pulleys. There is also the DC motor option...

Excellent old Bridgeport for $7900. Good deal?

Using this web app < SearchTempest > I was able to find the following: Bridgeport Series 1 Vertical Mill - $3950 Use your Google-Fu; it is powerful.

Bridgeport M head Draw bar dissasembly

The drawbar is RHT and there is a LHT nut holding it on. Loosen the LHT nut all the way off and it comes right out of the quill.

    Help with Bridgeport Purchase

I just saw this thread. A lot of fellows don't realize that these pieces of equipment are not very plentiful in the South. You probably did about as good as you could in that market. Here's what I suggest- Instead of disassembling it and trying to make it work better, why not use it a bit on...

    RFQ: Plastic Housing

Dear Fellows- I have received ten inquiries in the past two days. Thank you for helping to do what I love. Mark

    RFQ: Plastic Housing

I added the following: P.S.: I can send you a better quality drawing, or a solid model upon request. Thx. MWI The low resolution *.jpg file doesn't show the drawing clearly, and the limit on *.pdf file size prevented me from attaching it to the original post.

    RFQ: Plastic Housing

Howdy all- I need between ten and fifty housings made out of plastic. The material must be a good insulator and capable of living outside. (Usually, this type of thing is moulded out of ABS.) The color should be black or grey. Please, U.S.A. quotations only. Feel free to ask questions, make...

    A better quill lock

OK, so bigger brakes then, number one... And you can rotate the clamping threads, number two. Seems like a good idea. (My old BP has a 2MT quill, and the endmill moves in the collet before the quill itself if I try to go too heavy. So, I wasn't aware of the problem.)

    A better quill lock

I missed this thread earlier, on account of the holiday... The quill lock, as I understand, functions somewhat like a brake. As the mating surfaces wear, the angle of the lever will have to be increased in order to give enough pressure to the lock. The threads might be the most susceptible...

    A Newbie Buys a Bridgeport

Your gap will depend upon how much lash needs to be removed. I did this a few years ago, and I was foggy on it then; I hope one of the BP zen masters will respond. I would like to understand the process better m'self. EDIT: Here is the procedure...

    A Newbie Buys a Bridgeport

Absolutely! But only if you adjust the split nuts correctly to minimize backlash. (It took me a couple tries...)
