Procunier 1E or Tapmatic 30X for deep hole 0-80 tapping in aluminum with drill press

I'm toying with the idea of power tapping 0-80 holes in aluminum with a drill press. The thru holes will be about 3/8" deep and pre-drilled to 1.25mm. Both the Procunier 1E and Tapmatic 30X go down to #0. My questions is which of these two tapping heads would be more forgiving to 0-80 taps...

    Can I run a 1.5 HP 3 phase motor with a 1 HP VFD?

OK, I switched my VFD to SLV mode and entered all the motor parameters,(even thought they were higher then the VFD's official specs), and then executed an autotune. This has resulted in a decrease in amps at the lower speeds. In V/F mode I was exceeding the VFD's rated 4.3 amp output by about...

    Can I run a 1.5 HP 3 phase motor with a 1 HP VFD?

Thanks, I reduced CF to 6 kHz. (anything over 5 KHz reduces the noise). The motor is overclocked and belt pulley arranged so I can get a wide speed range just from the dial. I did set voltage to 210VAC. The only scenario where I'm close to 65% FLA is at motor RPMs << Nameplate speed. With a...

    Can I run a 1.5 HP 3 phase motor with a 1 HP VFD?

There's a section in the manual for programming "motor parameters" into the VFD. (ie) -Motor no load current -Motor rated current -Motor rated speed -Motor rated power -Motor rated voltage What does the VFD do with all these parameters? My VFD has no load current at 1.7 and rated at 3.4 as...

    Can I run a 1.5 HP 3 phase motor with a 1 HP VFD?

I just rec'd my Teco VFD and everything seems to be fine. The motor starts up and runs just fine. I'd sure appreciate a sanity check on these numbers: Setup: Carrier Frequency set to 13 kHz to avoid the annoying 5 KHz sound Motor voltage set to 210 VAC Upper frequency limit set to 80Hz (motor...

    Can I run a 1.5 HP 3 phase motor with a 1 HP VFD?

My biggest concern is getting the motor started. I doubt the motor will ever ask for it's full 5.8 amps FLA since it will likely never see a 1.5 HP load. I don't see any specs for the motor's surge current nor do I see specs on a VFD's ability to supply a starting surge current. I just don't...

    Can I run a 1.5 HP 3 phase motor with a 1 HP VFD?

Thank guys for all the great advice. In summary it sounds like I'm probably OK powering the 5.8 amp FLA motor with a 4.2 amp continuous rated VFD. Like I said earlier, I can't imagine ever needing 1.5 HP. My other DP's have been 1/2-3/4 HP and never let me down. I'm leaning towards a Teco...

    Can I run a 1.5 HP 3 phase motor with a 1 HP VFD?

Here's the background. I'm restoring a Delta 17" DP that came with a 3 phase 1.5 HP motor with a FLA spec of 5.8 amps. I need to use this drill with 120VAC. Plan A is to simply swap motors. Plan B is to use a 120VAC 1 HP VFD but they only come with an output spec of 4.2 amps max. What...

Seeking help with replacing relay in Baldor bench grinder with another brand

That's correct. You only need to jumper the start winding until the motor comes up to speed. After that, remove the jumper. Start windings are only energized for a few seconds and will overheat (ie burn up) if left energized for more then several seconds.

Seeking help with replacing relay in Baldor bench grinder with another brand

You could test the motor by shorting the two leads that the start relay engages for a couple second. That's all this relay does. When you power up the motor the inrush of current causes the coil to make the two contacts. As the inrush of motor current dies down the relay breaks off the start...

Seeking help with replacing relay in Baldor bench grinder with another brand

Have you attempted to take apart your existing relay. I've rebuild these things before. Sometimes the contacts just need to be cleaned and then they're good as new. Before you shell out big $'s I'd inspect the old one closer. They're really simple devices.

Drill bit selection ? (to minimize chip size and maximize surface chip extraction)

I need to drill some #60 holes in thin sheet metal. I want to try and maximize the chips that are extracted above the surface and minimize any chips that would fall below the surface as the drill penetrates the bottom edge of the workpiece. If any chips fall below the surface as the drill...

Programmable peck drilling in AL - Any advantage going with Parabolic bit? or Cobalt?

I'm trying to choose the optimal drill bit for programmable peck drilling in Aluminum. The holes are about .450" deep using a #54 bit. (approx. 8 X D). If you're pecking your way thru at approx .050" peck increments is there still an advantage going Parabolic? (chips get cleared after each...

    Peck Drilling "Offset" Parameter?

I'm using a Servo Programmable DP to peck drill 1.25MM holes at a depth of about 10MM in aluminum. One of the parameters that I can choose is called offset. It's specifies the distance to withdraw the drill from the bottom of the last peck. Here's my question: In small hole peck drilling...

Cutting fluid for deep hole micro drilling in Aluminum

I do a lot of CNC deep hole micro drilling in aluminum. I drill 1.25 mm holes to a depth of about 10-15 mm at 10,000 RPM in aluminum. (.750"/min feed rate, .050" starting peck, .025" ending peck, using cobalt parabolic bit) I've experimented with various fluids: (from best to worst) 1...

Programmable Micro Drilling - A couple newbie questions

Hi, I'm new to programmable drilling and have a couple questions. First of all I use a Servo DP at 10,000 RPM and drill 1.25mm center holes in .375" deep aluminum standoffs. I use peck drilling (.65"/min Feed Rate, starting peck .050", ending peck .025", 1 sec pause between pecks for...

What parameters for CNC drilling 1.25MM to depth of 10MM in aluminum

Thanks!! This is all very helpful. I made a few trials prior to the replies and came up with the following which seemed to work well: 4000 RPM Starting Peck .060" Ending Peck .025" (controller reduces peck automatically as the hole deepens) Feed rate .35 in/sec Pause between pecks 1.0 sec It...

What parameters for CNC drilling 1.25MM to depth of 10MM in aluminum

I have a Servo Programmable Micro Driller and I'm trying to optimize the peck/drilling parameters using a 1.25MM cobalt drill bit and I need to go to a depth of about 10MM in aluminum. I can choose/program the following key parameters: 1. Rate of feed in inches/minute 2. RPM of the spindle 3...
