Internal Bore and Taper Grinding - T&C Grinder?

I'm not able to locate a collet nose (collet nut) for the Tree 2UVR I've recently picked up, so I am setting out to make one. With this part being hardened, I'll need to grind the bore and the internal taper to be able to make the part fit correctly according to the print (attached). I...

    Thanks, appreciate the lead.

    Tree 2UVR Collet Nut

I’d recently bought a Tree 2UVR in great shape. The only issue is that the seller didn’t include the collet nut which threads into the bottom of the spindle to retain the universal z collets that the mill uses. Any ideas on where I might find one of these? I suppose I could turn one on the...

    General Laibility Insurance anyone?

I'm through Sentry, and they are practically the only insurance co. I could find that would quote for a shop doing any type of manufacturing. Good luck getting general liability only, I tried with at least a dozen companies and it was a no go. My premium is $2,800 for a one man shop, complete...

    Shaft Alignment Questions

This is something I was starting to cook up, i figured a few shaft collars and tap it around a bit.

    Shaft Alignment Questions

Yeah, it's a specialized coating machine, so lots of support :/. Our last one was worse, believe it or not.

    Shaft Alignment Questions

Thanks for the feedback. It is a conveyor of sorts and I am fully expecting to still have to tweak it to get the system tracking properly. The last machine I put together was a royal pain as we didn't align the rollers to each other and it was a tweak and watch it run situation. What do you...

    Shaft Alignment Questions

I can level the two axes independently, which makes it easier for sure. That's an interesting thought standing the unit upright, I may go that route as I don't have inside micrometers big enough to span between the shafts. The distance between shafts is on average around 18" apart.

    Shaft Alignment Questions

I agree, except the shafts are in different planes. The only way I can think to make this happen is to have multiple large(ish) right angle reference to butt up against the shafts.

    Shaft Alignment Questions

I'm attempting to align the shafts parallel to one another on this piece of machinery I'm putting together, and I'd like to be able to do so without purchasing expensive laser aligning tools, etc. My first thoughts are to pick a reference shaft, hang plumb bobs for vertical reference lines at...

Conneaut may be a bit too far for me, but I appreciate the info.

Small Shop Space in Northern Ohio

I'm looking at moving my shop to a new location, as I've outgrown my current space. The preferred area would be within a 20 mile radius of Brunswick. I'd prefer to lease at this point, and only need a small space (1500 to 2000 sq ft). Light industrial space with 3-phase power would be great...

    Buck-Boost Transformer Selection

The transformer specs are a bit misleading indeed. I kept looking at the transformer thinking it looked way too small for the given load. I'll send the undersized transformer back to McMaster, so no big deal. No decimal point missed, 55.0A for the load at 220V. KVA is misleading as well, but...

    Buck-Boost Transformer Selection

I measured the voltage with a Fluke 87-V. I'm confident with the readings. But a good point, nonetheless. I thought the load for buck/boost transformers was the voltage rise or drop multiplied by the load current. So in this instance, my voltage drop is 24V and the load current (FLA) is 55A...

    Buck-Boost Transformer Selection

I haven't needed to use a buck/boost transformer in the past as all of my other equipment will handle 250VAC input. My mistake, the transformer weight is 7 lbs. Here are the McMaster transformer specs: T18149 | Brand | Acme Electric

    Buck-Boost Transformer Selection

I have a new piece of equipment I'm powering up, and the incoming voltage is too high. The equipment's rating is 220VAC +/- 10%, and the incoming single phase voltage is 245VAC. So I've landed on using a buck-boost transformer to knock down the voltage. After looking through various sites, I...

    Rigging question K.O. Lee 6 x 12 Surface grinder

I had this same scenario B.F. (before forklift). The existing pallet didn't allow access to the floor and the bottom of the machine at the same time, so I made a temporary pallet. I set up a new temporary pallet beside the machine on the existing pallet. The new pallet was screwed together...

    Building Shop on Personal Property

That's very sound advice and the situation created by building would be almost identical. Thanks for the heads up, I'll be sure to look into the depreciation aspect.

    Building Shop on Personal Property

Oddly enough, I called the "zoning" department for my township and the first thing they asked before I could get two words out was if the question was related to medical marijuana farming :) I say "zoning" because it is one person and they have absolutely no clue about the rules. I think they...

Technically, that is the case. I'm zoned Ag, so you can get away with a lot!
