What Product to Remove Oil Stains from Concrete?

CLR does have a product for concrete that I've had luck with. Just pour it on let it sit for a minute then take a hard brisled bursh or broom and put some elbow grease into it then spray down with water. All environmentally friendly too. Worked like a charm on a pretty big trans. fuild stain on...

ASQ Certified Calibration Techinician exam Difficulty ?

Hey I was just wondering if anyone here has taken the ASQ Certified Calibration Techinician exam? I am just wondering the level of difficulty that it is just to help determine how much time I need to spend on the body of knowledge to take the exam and pass. I not worried about passing as i have...

Suspected cracks vertically along ID thread how should i ensure this is the case?

Yeah its form a reputable mill. We actually managed to scope it and i dont think its a crack. Maybe a nitrogen bubble or some sort of other gas. Its only on 2 pieces so far but its a run of 240 so Ill keep an eye on it. Thanks for the suggestions

Suspected cracks vertically along ID thread how should i ensure this is the case?

It was cut on a lathe but the mark is not strait vertical. It jumps around in a quater turn vasinity. I was sort thinking bad material too considering the parts are new. maybe some sort of inclusion when they formed the bar at the mill.

Suspected cracks vertically along ID thread how should i ensure this is the case?

the thread is a 1 3/8-8 UN it would be hard to get in with LPI I know. thats sort why I was looking for an alternative. It is slighty magnetic (17-4 ph) but with a thread that small I think I would be in the same boat as liquid pen.

Suspected cracks vertically along ID thread how should i ensure this is the case?

I was just wondering how i might go about confirming surface and subsurface cracks along a internal thread verticaly in stainless. If it was not stainless MPI i know would work but because it is stainless I dont really know. I could try LPI but I was hoping for another option in a reasonable...

    Setting Inside Micrometers

Funny im having the same problem but with a mitutoyo inside mic. One of the older guys here told me that they way the to do it was to measure the distnace of the zero to 1 rod stop to tip and then for evey consecuative rod just add an inch. I'm not sure if this works but since our ID mics are do...

How to approach measuring tools out of accuracy?

yeah the bore gages are not the problem, its the inside mics interchangable rods that are. they have all worn at a different rate and now it is not just a spimle spindle adjustment it the rods themselves that need the adjusting. I wish we could use bore gages for all inside measurements but the...

How to approach measuring tools out of accuracy?

I have few measuring tools that i are giving me trouble as far as calibration and them being too far out of spec from the manufactures stated accuracy, most notably inside mics, depth mics and OD anvil mics. I want to know how to handle the red sticker situation without getting dinged by the...

Gagemaker thread pitch diameter location template question

It is a very annoying situation especially because the pitch tool uses balls and that makes it a rather tough one to work backwards on too. Like I could deal with the taper angle calculation but as soon as you get different size balls in the equation it makes it really tough to calculate. I'm...

Gagemaker thread pitch diameter location template question

I am glad these are the answers im getting, makes me feel like way less of an idiot.:willy_nilly: So stand off is suppose to be 0.625" but it is nowhere near that from the end of either the box template or the pin template. Im going with it must be a calculated value. They dont make life easy do...

Gagemaker thread pitch diameter location template question

Was just wondering if anyone knows if the distance to the notch on gagemakers pitch diameter location templates is a standard distance from the shoulder given in API spec 7-2 or if it is a special distance and diameter that Gagemaker has calculated? The reason i ask is because i have been asked...

    Are Digital tools repairable?

Ive used Mitutoyo's repair sevice before and they do an excellent job on more expensive tools. The tools that won't be worth it from what I've seen are cheaper non digital models. Im assuming Starrett would be the same especially with the $45 bench fee.

    Testing for perpindicularity

Put the part as we see it in the pictures on the comparator and then take an engineering square and set it up against the cylinderical surface and measure the distance between the edge of the square and the cylinder if there is any gap. That basiclly what other people in this thread are telling...

Measuring and specing a hole- still a complete stupid noob!

Get yourself a good bore gauge for measuring. Hole mics are nice too but with a bore gauge it is easier to test for a hole being out of round or tapered. The three points and the length of the measuring faces make that sorta tough with a hole mic. The pins are nice for function as stated and big...

Measuring and specing a hole- still a complete stupid noob!

Your friend is correct, I have seen holes way out. You could always put a GD & T tolerance on it. This is some information on the specific cicularity call out you are looking for Circularity - GD&T Basics Boring would be a good way to make the hole but i wouldnt rule out reaming it on the mill...

    CPK value?

Yeah i would say Cpk And cp values are useful for large runs of the same part in a production setting. I would also agree SPC has its place when executed correctly. here is a good video if you or anyone else is interested in trying to use it in a machine shop vs a production line setting...

    CPK value?

It how far off center the process is from the mean value. In other words the CPK is if the majority of the data (or normal curve) is centered along the mean or if it is off to one side either above or below the mean. Cpk=1 or greater means the process is centered, below 1 and its is off to one...

    Thermometer for QC/Calibration Room?

yes the temp varies greatly but the room itself is controlled by both air conditioner and furnace. They told me to get a variety of price ranges and go from there. These links are all helpful though and yes it has to be calibrated or it will not be in the shop.

Hi was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as far as brand and/or model of thermometer for a QC room temp monitoring? I know i could look at transcat but i have a feeling i will pay an arm and a leg with them. I am looking for something that is a permanate fixture and goes to say a...
