I acquired a bunch of Kennametals expanding collets (all different sizes) similar to this one:
But I have no arbors for them.
I contacted Kennametals tech support and they told me the product is too old and no longer supported.
Here is a cross section view of a typical collet:
So what...

"Thank you for reaching out for a quote for your Lathe Cross Slide! At this time we don't offer any cosmetic engraving or etching"

Looked just right. But they don't offer engraving in any form other than a cheesy "single line etch".
Too bad. I would use them in a heartbeat if I could.

I'm replacing the cross slide on my lathe. The new piece (Dura-Bar) needs degree lines added to the cast iron similar to this pattern:
The diameter is about 4".
I don't have access to a laser. With that limitation, how would you carve those lines into the metal?
Gary
I recently acquired a nice set of rubber flex collets for cheap money.
I want to use them on an Atlas 12" lathe.
As best as I can tell, Jacobs only threaded mount for their spindle nose chuck was a 2-1/4 x 8 thread. My lathe has a 1-1/2 x 8 thread.
I will need to make some sort of adapter...
Reviving an old thread:
Was the adapter a home brew or were these chucks available with that size thread from Jacobs?
I ended up with a nice set of collets for cheap money and would like to use them on my Atlas 12" (1-1/2" 8TPI thread). But the closest mount I've found is a 2-1/4" 8TPI thread...
I picked up an old 6" Sampson 4-jaw scroll chuck for REALLY cheap ($10). But it only came with outside jaws.
Finding inside jaws for this chuck is VERY unlikely so I thought I'd grind down the existing jaws to accept a set of Top Jaws. I have the equipment to do that - except the jaws are...
I have a KO Lee sensitive work head model B942 that came with several dividing heads. They are 4, 6. 8, 24 and 28 divisions.
I had a project that required a 36 division head. So I contacted LeBlond (who bought the KO Lee assets) to see if they had one in inventory. They didn't but said they...
I just ran across this question while researching the 5/16-40 thread.
I have a General 5/16 Pin Vise that I am modifying. It uses that thread on both ends where the collets are held.

I have an old Hardinge 5" 4-jaw chuck model 36-HC.
Parts are no longer available for the chuck.
3 of the 4 jaw screws look similar to the photo below.
I'm currently using the chuck as a rotary table but I'd like to use it on the lathe.
Does it make sense to fill the chuck key holes with...
The picture below shows the pinion from the belt tightening arm on the drill press.
I would like to make a new one with a bigger knob on it. That way it will be easier to tighten the drive belt.
The pinion shaft is 0.750" in diameter with 7 teeth and a pitch of 12.
I have the proper equipment...
Thanks for trying.
I did some more sleuthing and found VERY complete specs for blind rivets at the fastenere web site - including mandrel diameters.
Gary
The hole is for the shank (called the mandrel) of the blind rivet. It isn't the actual size of the rivet itself.
Thus an "F" size drill would be WAY to big for the shank of a 1/4" rivet since an "F" size drill is also 1/4" in diameter.
Gary
I have a blind rivet tool that is missing 3 of the 6 heads.
I contacted the manufacturer (Astro) to see about replacing the missing ones but got no where.
So I decided to make them myself.
I measured the ones I have and became confused.
The one pictured below is marked 5/32 (or .156"). The...
I'm want to make a scraping tool similar to this one:
But the commercial INSERTS are way too much for my hobby-level interest.
I have a diamond wheel / carbide wheel grinder.
Is it possible to use carbide inserts intended for other uses in place of the "real ones" by using the others and...
