    Probing inner radius

2 Questions: 1) Using F360, I set a partial hole probe (probes 3 points of radius). How do I export this data on a Haas VF-2SSYT? Either as XY locations or as a radius, whichever is simpler. 2) Also, how can I set a series of probes, and export the XYZ locations, and map out the shape...

    Camera precision measuring device?

Problem: measuring internal radii, splines, geometry, that can't be accessed by probes or other means. Currently what Im doing: using a regular camera at highest focal length, measuring the object with caliper, adding the picture to a CAD software, adjusting image to size Any technologies...

Material choice for DMLS engagement ring

My material choices are: •Cobalt Chrome •Titanium(Ti6Al4V) •Stainless Steel(17-4 PH) I need a metal that won't fracture with the least resilience possible. To prevent the prongs from breaking or springing back. (image for reference only)

    Loud stepper resonance cure?

I bolted a NEMA-23 to a 1'x1' aluminum panel, 13/64"(5 mm) thick. The resonance is extremely loud. Full stepping between 100-15 RPM. Even when adding padding between the motor/panel. (Its almost inaudible when not fixed to the panel) Any methods to reduce it as much as possible or completely?

    Shaft torque required - calculation

How would torque be calculated to rotate a 200 lbm drum on parallel shafts? 1" shafts rotate same direction, inversely turning barrel(15.7" OD). 5 rpm - in 1 second. Gear ratio(15.74:1) Variable 1: barrel is not fixed on any axis Variable 2: barrel rotation is halted (shafts continue rotating)

    Spur gear question

This may be a relatively simple design, but hard for me to understand. The task: tape (red) and tape backing(purple), will pass through these orange rollers. The 1st and 2nd set of rollers need to move the tape at the exact same speed, and simultaneously wind up the backing matching the...

    Combination bearing torque

Can you easily spin a 1" OD combination tapered bearing by hand, with 200 lbs of thrust force on the bearing? The thrust is rated for 900 lbs. The bearing fixture will be compressed against a paper roll (50 lbs), and the paper has to roll off without ripping (with starting torque). Just need a...

Probe G55 Z offset for calculation

Machine: Haas VF2 Probe: Renishaw Goal: 1) probe Z (fixture 0) and store in G55 offset 2) probe Z (G54) in operation and subtract G55 Z from G54 Z 3) store the new Z offset in G54 Is there a G55 Z global variable thats stored? Or what code would call up G55 Z offset? (note: fixture 0(Z)...

Program Z work offset probe with macro?

Application: We're milling raw stock sheets with small variances in thickness. We're milling hundreds of sheets, so measuring each one isnt an option. The goal: Probe the fixture Z height then, Probe the stock Z height then, Write a program to calculate the difference which equals the actual...

Gear reduction for NEMA motor accuracy

Im making a round rotary table, about 300 mm in diameter -- looking to get a tolerance within ±0.01 mm around the perimeter With step angles of 1.8° Im looking at tolerance of ~ 5 mm. Question: What gear reduction would I have to use, to get ±0.01 mm?

Probe angle rotation G68 tolerance off!

We did a test creating 2 holes (20" apart) on an aluminum L-beam vised in. 1. Operation was creating the probe holes (1.18" diameter), then drilling a 3/32 hole beside the second hole. -We rotate the vise approximately 1° (or 10 mm offset from the original position of the 2nd hole). 2. We ran...

    V-cutting mill bits

Does anyone have experience with or know of any sources of V-cutting mill bits? I need this for a slotting operation that leaves a perfect 90° cut. Chamfer/spot bits usually have a point around 1 mm at the tip.

Haas/probe using wrong (-/+) with rotation

Im using an angle rotation and Haas enters the (-/+) of the angle incorrectly. Example, the part is rotated CCW, Haas assigns the angle as (-), which rotates the part CW. Now the angle is off by twice the angle. How can I work around this, without having to manually rotate the part to...

    Vacuum Lifter Automation

I'm designing a simple automated vacuum lifter, from a converted 3D printer. The application: this only requires one movement on the Z axis. The manifold needs to move down, activate air (picking up parts), move back up, and release the parts onto a placed tray. I have little experience with...

    Al 6061 sheet warping issues

Were machining 3/16" sheets of aluminum, facing off ~1 mm total. 20" x 10" - dimensions. The warp is about 0.19" - 0.39" (5-10 mm), we need this tolerance within 0.0025" (0.06 mm) Are other aluminum alloys more suitable to prevent this? Are there any tricks, that don't involve more setup...

    Probing feature-to-feature angle issue Update

We've ruled out some variables that may be causing the failure. We're assuming the issue has to do with probing/reading xyz coordinates. The program does work without applying a probing/rotation cycle. If you see and potential issues in the code, if you could please point it out. The error...

    Probing angle check

    We're getting a "304 INVALID I,J OR K IN G02 OR G03" when running a facing operation, at these lines: N235 G18 G2 X-0.3246 Z-0.0197 I0.0787 K0. N240 G17 G3 X-0.2858 Y-0.0318 I0. J0.0394 Here's the probe angle cycle. We thought the issue was with closing with a G69, which worked for a drill...

    Machine collision from drilling

We're drilling 1" holes in SS 304L, with 1/2" (140°) solid carbide, TiAlN coated. The initial plunges sounded heavy, like they were pushing into the stock. A few pecks through, the machine gave a collision warning. We went through 2 tools, one of them had a tooth break off. We increased...

    Machining SS 304 Face Mill

Seeing as the last thread was saturated mostly by unhelpful people, I'll continue here. We did another test with facing, using feeds and speeds from manufacturer recommendations and Gwizard. They varied by a lot, so we went somewhere in the middle. Carbide Insert face mill: Diameter 3"...
