    Hamas strike on Israel.

I've been lurking for the past year and, of course, i don't have a dog in this fight. Nor do I have any sort of opinion as to what should happen in the Middle East. That said, I am of the belief that the "Israel, Palestine, Gaza, Hamas, Hezbollah" issue will probably never be solved. There are...

    TIG torch cooler

I have two TIG coolers. One is an old Bernard 2500 that holds 2.5 gallons. It has a radiator and a fan. The other one is home built with a 5 gallon tank and no radiator. Both of them have Procon pumps. Neither of them has ever overheated, even after several hours of welding. I've run all sorts...

Has anyone tried "Piece Work" to pay employees?

Did he say $16.00 per hour? LOL. It doesn't make sense to drive to work for peanuts like that. McDonald's pays that much for making burgers. Piece work guarantees "banking parts" that will be of lesser quality. I'm just sayin'.

    Sexual harassment in the workplace

I once worked for an insurance company. The District manager was accused of sexual harassment when he failed to promote his secretary as promised in return for hanky-panky. The company paid the lady off, transferred her and told Mr. Manager that one more time and he would be out the door. A...

The IRS is still being incompetent

USPS Priority Mail works nicely, too. You get a tracking number with a time of mailing and a time of delivery on the Internet. Sometimes the green card on Certified Mail can get detached from the letter and sent back to you without a signature.

    Best engineering screw ups

The 1960's Lincoln Cars had the power steering pump on the front end of the crankshaft. It would alternate between pumping hydraulic fluid into the crankcase or engine oil into the hydraulic system depending upon which seal was leaking. The annoying issue was that you had to remove the engine...

    Ebay is a ripoff

StewMac now has some Brazilian Rosewood sets for guitar backs and side for $2,500 a set!!! Back in the 1970's when I was building guitars I bought two Brazilian Rosewood planks 2" X 10" X 6' for $100 apiece. Then the CITIEs Agreement came about and now it's difficult to find.

    Ebay is a ripoff

A couple of years ago, I sold a nice banjo on eBay for $3,000. After all was said and done, the 15% total costs for PayPal and eBay amounted to $450.00! I netted $2,550 and lost money on the deal. This is typical nowadays. I now only use eBay for purchases and it would only be for something rare...

New shop building. 3 phase or single phase option?

I'm in Northern California and the local power service would quote around $50K for a new 3 phase installation. 30 years ago, they did it for free for my nearby professional machinist friend. I'd certainly go with an RPC, maybe a really good one like a Phase Perfect. I use a home-built RPC in my...

Inventor wants to help us on his jobs in shop+sign NDA

You can't compare Musk to Steven Seagal who, after gaining over 100 pounds, is now a Russian citizen and who favors Putin's war on Ukraine. :rolleyes5:

Inventor wants to help us on his jobs in shop+sign NDA

He's a human being, not a thing. His form of BS, as you call it, has generated some interesting inventions as well. Your ID here is well-chosen.

    New forum BS

Thanks. As you say, it seems to be rather meaningless and almost random.

    New forum BS

I'm interested in the reaction score. I've got a minus rating and I can't figure it out. I've always tried to make nice whenever possible and I get a minus. LOL.

Emergency planning for hydraulic injection injury

In my employment history I worked in Aerospace on firing rocket engines as well as later on as a safety consultant for a workers compensation company. Both industries were known for hydraulic injuries. In the agricultural/farm areas such injuries were especially common. Workers would from time...

Inventor wants to help us on his jobs in shop+sign NDA

Liability waivers are not worth the paper they are written on. Smart lawyers usually find a way around them if the injury is serious enough.

H&W Machine repair customer review and recommendation.

This reminds me of my old motorcycling days. I knew a fellow, let's just call him "Wild Bill" He was a old biker that I knew. He heard that someone in our little motorycle club was talking about him in a very negative way. His response was to say "Well, if he done said that about me, he's...

Taper broke on older Rockwell/Delta drill press???

I have an old Craftsman Drill Press. From time to time I've seen spindles for my unit on eBay. Check it out. You might get lucky. The early Deltas and Craftsman DP's are well-worth repairing

H&W Machine repair customer review and recommendation.

I've been on this site since 2006 and I don't recall any such negative talk about H&W. IIRC, I have bought parts from them at one time or another but I never had any problems. I've also read many of H&W's contributions to the threads here for years and they always contribute and give what I...

Welders- do you ever take on work where you know the design is inadequate?

That is correct. From a legal standpoint, when a structure fails, an ensuing lawsuit will name as defendants everyone in the chain of commerce. That would include the designer, the welder, the owner and anyone else that even looked at the project, plus a few John Does. I'd run away from the project.
