    Simple CAM Package?

Mike, Sheetcam ( http://www.sheetcam.com ) can trace either open or closed DXF contours (the contour can be the path centerline, or you can right- or left- offset your cutter), as well as pocketing. It's inexpensive and has a downloadable trial version that is not crippled. Best regards, Randy

    Hardinge collet closer adjustment question

Thanks, Larry. Only the upper screw is loose but I will check the alignment after I adjust it. Randy

    Hardinge collet closer adjustment question

Is there anything non-obvious about adjusting the "pilot screws" that join the yoke to the connecting link? They just look like cone bearings to me and I'd tend to adjust them like a bicycle hub--just shake-free but not tight. But I want to be sure that there are no "gotchas"... On mine one...

    Motor running in reverse

bobo, just swap any two of the output wires between the phase converter and your motor. I had the same thing happen the first time I hooked up my borrowed rotary phase converter. Best regards, Randy (wow, this might be the first time I've answered rather than asked here! :) )

    Guidelines for Avatars

OK, now that PM is using vBulletin it's hard to tell that I'm not on CNCzone. :) So to make my confusion seamless, I'd like to run my CZ avatar by you mods to see if it's acceptable here. Thanks, Randy

PM was down for two hours this afternoon but not for the usual reason

Oh, that's very different. Never mind. Emily Litella P.S. Thanks for all the acronym expansion. I was familiar with about half of them but that means I'd get about 50% on the quiz... Randy

PM was down for two hours this afternoon but not for the usual reason

I don't know why people keep blaming DOS. It's Windows they should be worried about. I'm running DOS on two computers in my garage with TurboCNC and they have been no trouble at all. Boot really fast too. Emily Litella

    Where can I find set screws 3/8 -20 x 1"?

Jim, are you sure it's not 3/8-24? I am looking at a 30AHC taper-mount chuck, and that is the thread it uses. There is also a fab drawing for a pin in the Yahoo "Hardinge-lathe" group that is modified from a 3/8-24 x 1" setscrew. Best regards, Randy

Who & Where are the "Good" Electrical Surplus Outlets

I was thinking of a 3HP motor for a VFD to run a 2HP motor. Is 5HP what I should have been looking for? The 3HP I was looking at was continuous rated. But thanks for the reminder. Best regards, Randy

Who & Where are the "Good" Electrical Surplus Outlets

I hesitate to dispute a Diamond member  , but as a Lincoln native I must point out that Burden's Surplus Center is in Lincoln, NE. There is an unrelated company named Surplus Sales in Omaha. I didn't think that Surplus Center's motors were too badly priced. I was looking at a 3HP 3ph for...

Vector drive needed for fixed-frequency VFD?

Perry, I'm borrowing a RPC right now. It is bulky and noisy. Definitely noisier than the Feeler itself, which is pretty darn quiet. For $185 I can buy a Teco FM50 in Nema1 enclosure. The NEMA4 version is over $400, so I'll spend a few more $$ and buy a breaker box to put the Teco in and...

Vector drive needed for fixed-frequency VFD?

Thanks for the reply, motion guru. I didn't realize that it would actually be counterproductive to use a vector drive--I was only thinking in terms of not wasting money on a feature that I wouldn't be taking advantage of... Best regards, Randy

Vector drive needed for fixed-frequency VFD?

I think the answer is "no" but I want to ask to be very sure. :) I have a Feeler 2d-op lathe that is a clone of a Hardinge DSM-59. It has a 2HP 2-speed spindle motor, a mechanical variable-speed drive that is varied by a small AC motor driving a leadscrew, and a coolant pump. All three...

    If you,re into steam engines.........

I went to the site but don't see such a link, Baldrik. Just "Forum", "About Us", "Online Chat", "The Team", "Support Us", "Object Clause", "Contact Us", "Links", "Online Shop". I searched the forum for "Cathedrals Express" but none of the hits went back that far. Best regards, Randy (A4 fan)...

    3 point lathe mounting question

Or cobblestones! :) My FSM-59 is a very faithful copy of the Hardinge as far as I have seen. I have the DSM-59 manual but no Feeler manual yet, and everything matches the Hardinge so far (other than microswitches replacing drum switches for the spindle motor control...) Best regards, Randy

    Help.....Need Hardinge owners manual

I also could email scans of the relevant pages (assuming DSM turret.) And if it is not repairable, I would be interested in buying it. I'm looking for a turret baseplate/casting to hack for a project. Best regards, Randy

    Repainting Bridgeport

lazlo, MwTech, Metalman21 and Lakeside53, thank you for your answers. Robert, I am familiar with Polane. Where I work, Polane T Plus has been the standard paint for years. We don't apply it, but our painter does. It is indeed spray only. Lakeside53, I will check with West Marine. There are...

WTB Hardinge louvered motor cabinet panel

Specifically for a "Five-Nine" but I think it was a common part (the TFB-H at work has what looks to be the right panel, but they would miss theirs...) About 20" square. Thanks, Randy

    3 point lathe mounting question

Well then, if Feeler did a good enough job of copying Hardinge I should not need any caulk... What's the date on your ESM-59, Jim? I just read a webpage on repainting a 1947 Bridgeport, and the shelf in the column was wood. Best regards, Randy

    3 point lathe mounting question

tjs42, thanks for the reply about the caulking. My Feeler (FSM-59 to be exact) does have the 3-point kinematic mount with the springs underneath the chip pan. I picked it up Friday and am starting to disassemble and evaluate it. The Hardinge DV-59 manual talks about a "shipping restraint" at...
