Hi!
I stumbled upon that video:
I don't know who trained that guy, but it must have been someone working in a sleeping pill factory. :D
I bet you won't watch it to the end. In case you do, you will be amazed at how much stupidity and time can go into such a small brass part.

Hi!
Inspired by this Forrest Addy's posting (with a misleading title) I thought it is worth making a poll.
Liking <jcb>'s suggestion what would be on topic, here is the subforum's future content:
"Not just limited to scraping though. Also stuff about lubrication, failure mode analysis and...
Hi!
I'm having problems with the picture uploader. Only the basic uploader (one image at a time) works. The other one where I can select multiple pictures doesn't react when I click the button "select files". All on a Mac.
OS is the latest and greatest, browser Safari.
Anyone else or just me...
Hi!
I'm looking into options, how I can deburr tiny brass parts.
Yes, I'm aware that by changing machining strategy, I can reduce the burrs. That's on top of the list. And dead sharp tools. No problem so far ..
But still, I do have burrs. The ones I can't remove are on a tiny helical gear. OD...
Hi!
Recently, I made a few zinc-castings plus the molds and machining.
Today, I want to show off with one of them (that still lacks machining + jigs for that).
It is a replica spare part for a BMW R75 Wehrmachtsgespann. It is the rod for checking oil level (no clue how you call that).
After...
Hi!
In case you have some cast / plasma cut parts to clamp in the vice:
They tend to creap out of it if the sides are not parallel, or part likes to tilt on one side.
Here is a trick I once learned:
Take an old saw blade, cut it as long as your jaws are wide. Then (you need serrated vice jaws)...
"On Monday 20 January, ESA’s comet-chasing spacecraft Rosetta will wake up from 31 months of deep space slumber. ESA will streaming live from ESOC, Darmstadt, Germany, with full coverage of the day’s historic events as they unfold, starting at 09:15 GMT (10:15 CET)
Rosetta’s computer is...
Hi!
I have been asked to turn some tappets. Their problem is the bore:
Hole starts with ø7 mm, 3 mm deep. Then a conical part 9 mm long with the small end being ø 3.4 mm. So 12 mm deep with ø 3.4.
Material is AIS 4137 / 42CrMo4
Now I could buy some P. Horn minis + a holder and break a few...
Hi!
I'm living in a small village (350 people) with lots of farming in and around.
Since long, I have seen the sugar beet harvesters and always wanted to have a closer look at them. But most of the time, they seemed to work at night (depending on the situation, they make 24 hour shifts) or were...
Hi!
Here ate 3 videos of the production of the new BMW i3, the electric car to hit the market next month.
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
About 1 and a half hour of watching. No narrator, no explanations, still not boring.
It doesn't show the whole process, like carbon fiber production in the USA.
Some...
Hi!
Last Friday, the copper worm seems to have bitten my Indramat 3TRM2 servo amp. :( It is in a MAHO 700 C.
Symptoms:
X and Y (vertical mill nomenclature) do work.
Z works when going downwards, and works if jogging upwards really slow. Going too fast, I get a joint follow error. Sometimes...
Hi!
Here's a video about how (radio) crystals were selected, ground and tuned. Didn't imagine that it takes so much time.
Crystals Go to War
Length is 41:29

Hi!
We all know doc's pictures after having broken a bone. I have a few of these pictures.
But I find technical X-rays way more fascinating! Years ago, I let make an X-ray of an engine model. Built a light box for it and displayed that, together with the scale model, at an exhibition. All I...
Hi!
I have built a gang tool system for my lathe.
Design goals were:
Has to fit into a Multifix B QCTP (so limited to short parts)
All sub-holders symmetrical, so I could use them upside down or normal.
Adjustable height for each sub-holder
Boring bars should be able to stick through, so I...
Hi!
I had to use my Sinuskator yesterday, grinding a MT. I have bought it many moons ago.
This device was made with a lot of dedication and precision. As a German, I could best describe it as "Better than Swiss".
Basically, it is a sine-bar that goes between centers of a cylindrical grinder...
Hi!
I looked, but couldn't find it. Maybe I just missed it?
Does anybody know what the resolution of M19 (spindle orientation) is on the TL-lathes? TL-2 to be specific if that matters. One could give the number up to four digits behind the '.', but that certainly is not the positioning...
Hi!
A few minutes ago, a link to some free lathe CNC-program was posted in a German forum. Antivirus-software detected it to be malware.
The link was to olgspt2010 . narod . ru Maybe he is trying to offer it here too!
Don't be so dumb to download the software.

Hi!
Found a video that shwos a head to head race between a cam operated screw lathe and a CNC lathe. Same part, both swiss type. Only 40 years in between.
The screw lathe seems to run a bit slow to me?
Nick
Hi!
Found this on YT: Historische Automatendreherei von Carl Zeiss Jena - YouTube
Think the vid hasn't been linked before. If so, sorry!
They made 6 screws a minute. If you need a translation of the subtitles, feel free to ask!
Description translated:
Original screw cutting lathes of Carl...
Hi!
Somehow, I don't get it.
Say I do have a CNC-program with 3 tools. After tool #3 is finished, I see that I do have to tune the offset a bit to get to size. How do I start the code right at the tool #3? I only get errors like "x-axis overrun". Does the code have to have some prerequisites to...
