Baldor 1/3 hp bench grinder problem.

Until the sparks started to fly I thought this was some kind of AI or human troll. Do you know basic electriciy and how to use a volt/ohm meter? Green wire should always be attached to frame and checked for continuity through plug and to electrical system. Check the outlet first. 120 volts...

machining small pulleys. Need to center 2mm holes accurately

Scribing lines and center punching is asking for inaccuracies. How do you know the original hole is exactly on center of shaft? I have taken many things apart where the pin would not go back in with the hub turned 180. My choice is to use a dro to get the best location of center. Use a long...

Sort of OT - naturally occurring magnetism?

Using a compass for direction finding can be a challenge is parts of the world with high iron ore content in the earths crust. There are locally stronger magnetic fields in addition to standard deviation. Some of my drill bits and lathe tool bits become highly magnetized from use. Could someone...

Re-facing flanges with o-ring grooves on site

How much pressure? On refrigeration machines my company's routine was to wire wheel away as much rust as possible. It can be pitted, but all loose rust should be gone. Welding suppliers have thin wire wheels that will get down to the bottom of a 1/4 inch groove. Use a degreaser to clean all...

Lifespan of China made motors in the shop

Most industrial motors are TEFC design to keep the debris out of them in such dirty environments. They are built of heavy finned castings for this reason. They usually have a higher service factor partly to accomodate more heat than an air over motor. I don't think they perform better than an...

Electric Motor Shaft Alignment and Motor Mounting

You might try a wood splitter pump to engine mount and modify it. It would help if both motors were c frame. They are available from Surplus Center. On foot mounted motors a common base with riser block for smaller motor would work. Leave the riser slightly lower than calculation for shimming if...

OT - What's the magic trick for "fridge-ready" boxes?

There is a lot of colorful language in FL. People from all over live there in the winter. Down there it's INsurance. Lawyers in 3 piece suits say all yall. One day I asked a lady "How ya doin today?" " Ah am blessed." Another one. You look busy today. I'm up to my asshole in alligators.

OT - What's the magic trick for "fridge-ready" boxes?

I can just hear the lawyers over at the soft drink company. "If those cartons pop apart before they get home we are going to have tons of lawsuits to deal with. Might even put us out of business."

OT Ok now that I have quit smoking what do I do with my hands.

Spend a lot of time cleaning the nicotine off the inside of your car and home. Take up exercise to calm your nerves. When you regain your sense of smell and taste notice how bad everything smells around smokers. Think of people like my father who got emphysema and suffered a slow agonizing death.

US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has a downloadable PDF book on Frost protected shallow foundations, heated and unheated. The foundation does not need to be below frost line if properly insulated. I have built both heated and unheated and know it works. Site prep is very important...

DoALL Lathe won't start/wiring diagram troubleshooting

You wiring diagram is the key or logic on how the machine works. You are almost there. I suggest you check all of the switches/contacts that need to be on when fwd/rev lever is in fwd. Your motor specs are for 50hz. Change your overload settings to account for 20% increase in power at 60hz. If you go too high you will just burn motor. A clamp ampmeter at the motor should tell you what you need to know.

What grit diamond hone to use to sharpen 7/64" drill bits by hand?

Hone a small chamfer on the outside of the the lips. It will last longer between sharpenings. Drill from both ends with a shorter disposable drill bit. Get a variety of hones and see what works for you. I use it , but diamond hone is not the best choice for high speed steel.

Rotation problem with rotary phase converter

It sounds like you just want to stop it at a specific point as in threading to a shoulder. But it does not stop because you have moved the switch lever from forward past stop and into reverse. I think you do not want it to go in reverse, just stop. If that is the situation, just turn it off...
