Is it possible to spend TOO much on Equipment?
i don't think now is the time to be over spending on equipment if your business slows up considerably do you have enough stocked away to head into the red month in and month out. if i were in your shoes i'd hold tight and keep an eye out on the used and auction market. prices for equipment is...- ducesrwld

I guess its time for me to start my own Home shop thread.
pic below was the result of a lithium ion battery that fit in your hand and wiped out our first shop in the middle of the night. looked like a volcano went off where the battery malfunctioned and melted down.....moral of the story i'd at least think real hard about putting those batteries in...- ducesrwld

Another Slow down Thread
seeing a lot more sales guys calling, emailing, stopping in than norm. was scary slow up til a few weeks ago the holiday period was dead. quoting a lot more than normal but not seeing enough come in. neighboring shop used to be a bustling place pre covid now it is maybe 1/4 of the folks. guy...- ducesrwld

How to Verify Air Oil Getting to Spindle on a Fadal
def looks like an oil setup for the spindle but never seen one like that on a fadal most of the time the reservoir is right back by the lube tank. maybe spindle was changed out at some point and this system was an add on? if i remember tomorrow i'll take a couple pictures of one our 15k... -

first i would double check to verify it is air/oil spindle is there a 2nd oil reservoir back by the lube tank? i thought all 7500 & 10k spindles were grease pack. i have several 15k air/oil spindles but all 10k are grease packed in our fleet. the air/oil systems use very little oil compared... -

5 Axis Machine vs part choice
if most of the current opportunities are parts the size of your fist what about slapping a trunnion on one of your mills to get your feet wet? another route that is easier on the wallet and gets you started in the 5ax big boy playground.- ducesrwld

1999 Fadal 4020 for home garage
lets see a couple pics of the new purchase 1500 bones for a fadal is purdy cheap i don't understand how HGR can't figure out how to hook up some temp power so that an interested buyer can actually check the machine out. for that price i'd take the gamble.- ducesrwld

What’s the longest you’ve ever been “slow”?
beginning of '20 when covid hit we watched a 6 month backlog of work disappear and all get cancelled in 48 hrs.....you want to talk about getting shell shocked. we were lucky enough to be diverse and have a couple different divisions and some work that kept us afloat but 2 main revenue streams...- ducesrwld

How does your 2024 look?
got a call this week to look at some parts due to yet another shop closing its doors that makes 3 i know of in as many months in a 30 minute radius. optimistic for the coming year we quoted a lot of work out in december we'll see how that pans out. a lot of grey out on the horizon only time...- ducesrwld

drilling delrin without packing chips on the drill
we do a lot of drilling in plastics on our router primarily use a drill bank that spins at 8000 rpm we routinely drill at 75-125 IPM and peck around 1X D its hard to wrap your head around how fast you can go to town on plastic when your brain is geared around metal.- ducesrwld

slowest summer in our 20 years.
4th quarter has been pretty slow not much work coming in but quoting is up quite a bit last couple weeks. couple machine shops in the area are closing up just like out in the wild the old and weak in the herd are going to drop off here seems to be that business/economic cycle again.....- ducesrwld

Haas UMC350 Not being marketed now.
you took this statement out of context there biscuit. let me rephrase it for you lets roll the clock back a couple decades Haas for many shops was the buy one get one deal you could get 1.5 or sometimes 2 Haas spindles compared to a high end japanese spindle. Now lets come back to present day...- ducesrwld

back about 20 yrs ago Haas was putting around 200 spindles into the land o' cheese here and about double that down in the mfg powerhouse being the Chicagoland area. wouldn't be suprised in the US if it was 5-7.5k spindles pure guess there. at that time all the focus was on the growth...- ducesrwld
