Morning. A few pictures of my 1908 dean Smith is grace lathe. Had it for a few years waiting for myself to restore it. Bed was regrouped in its past but has been sitting for years. I have the overhead cone pulley and tailstock. Currently missing it gearset that would of come from factory with 22 of them.

Hi Spencer,

Thanks for posting your lathe photos.

Your lathe may not be 1908 - that date is part of the company name. According to Grace's Guide, their name was changed again in 1923, so perhaps your lathe is from somewhere within that time period.

Is that a break in the carriage casting?

Here are some photos of an old DSG I saw recently in Te Anau, New Zealand. Perhaps a 1920's model?

I wish I'd checked to see if the big spur gear is part of the drive (probably), or just a make-shift backplate. Lowest spindle speed looks to be 5.8 rpm. Not sure if it's a short bed from the factory or been shortened! :bawling:

Hi. Thanks for the pictures and the reply. Sorry I haven't got back to replying. The carriage isn't broken it bolts up like that looking like it's broke. The pictures are similar to the dsg 4AR onwards. I am currently restoring one of those.
