It’s been about a year working on and off on this machine. It was in decent shape but needed TLC as most older machines do.

Very nice.

Did you find the lathe locally or did you have it shipped in?
It looks like you have some nice machines in your shop.

Looks very nice. These Monarchs run forever.70 years old and most likely good for another 70 years.
Try buying a new lathe today that will still be working good in a hundred years from now.

Very nice work, I have been seeing on like that advertised near me, the ad says it has a max of 450 RPM, is that right?

The lowest I seen was 487. Change pulley diameter to seven inches and motor rpm to 1800, it’ll bump up to 700+.

That is such a beauty.
I'm a student of the Pacific War. A lot of this old machinery went there when it was new.
Perhaps you know that all ships of that era had a 2 letter designation for the type of ship they were.
DD was a destroyer, CA was a heavy cruiser, SS was a submarine.
And BB was the designation for a battleship.
You have a great old Battleship there. Really something to be proud of.
Hope you get to take her out for a spin once in a while.
Fire off her main guns. If for no other reason just for the shock and awe of it all.
