Good Afternoon,

I recently purchased a 1962 Monarch 10EE from a very nice forum member. I finally picked it up and wired up to 240V single phase as required and it does have Scissio Solid State replacements installed for the Thyratron tubes. I started it up today for the first time and began putting it through it's paces learning the controls and understanding how it works and all was going well. All of a sudden, the spindle shut down and I can't get it to run. The fan is on and it's getting power. I have a couple of extra C3J tubes and I swapped a couple of them through but the problem persists.

I have been reading many threads trying to figure out what the issue is but I am hoping the collective wisdom of you good people might point me in the right direction. I noticed that when I press the control on button, I hear the relay/magnetic switch click but it won't stay closed. It releases as soon as I release the momentary switch. I removed the spindle speed control module and the spindle does not turn.

I attached a link to a video that shows the problem.

Any insight, comments and/or advice would be most appreciated.

Thank you all so very much,

Joe

Doing a little more digging around while being extremely careful, if I push the contractor in the photo below, the other contractor remains engaged until I release this one. The spindle will turn if I hold this contact or other whatever it’s called closed.

C3J tube was the culprit. Sorry for any inconvenience and my sincerest thanks to those who sent me PM’s.

Much appreciated,

Joe
