We've got a 1hp J head, and I was hoping to track down a definitive answer in terms of oil. We'll be running Vactra 2 for the ways and lead screws, but the manual calls for a 10w oil. From my research, a lot of people are running Velocite 10 in their spindles, which is a 5w. Thoughts? We've also got a southbend 405-A lathe, so if we went Velocite 10 it could do double duty for the headstock bearings over there. If anyone's interested I can actually list out all the Machines we have, the Machine shop I'm restoring was opened a few decades ago, closed around 2008.
