We're looking for a high-quality Engine lathe preferably in the Midwest with a 24" swing and at least 96" between centers. There is not a lot out on the market now, most of what I looked at has been disappointing.
Do you know of anyone getting rid of a lathe this year?

I’d prefer a good used lathe built in this country that one could still by parts for. So that leaves, Monarch, Lodge, LeBlond, and American. I know parts are expensive but you can buy them.

I looked at a few new lathes and have not been impressed. I don’t think anyone building lathes have ever turned a part that weighs over 100 pounds. The tailstocks and steady rests are complete jokes. I looked at a 24” swing Nardini that had like a 30 pound tailstock that was taller then it was long.

L&S NOT in midwest. This is the "G" - the biggest toughest they built that year (check out the L3 spindle nose)

No affiliation

I'd guess the change to "wood lathe" could be as little as a suitable cutting tool :D

I work with Revolution Machine Tools in North Salt Lake. We have an Acra that might work for you.
Thanks,

Matt I am sending you an email. I have 2 good friends here in MN who sell used machinery. One Dennis Hoff used to be the President of the Used Machinery Association of America. He is also an appraiser and used to sell on online auctions. He knows all the used machine dealers in the Midwest. The other is Craig Laurich who used to be my foreman 20 years ago. He a Denny have a used machinery company in Hibbing MN now. He also sells new Acer Machines. He still scrapes too :-)

That they are……there’s a couple machines offsite that you may be able to see under power?

Good luck on your search.

Kevin
I took a look at those and
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/819823695842303/ - might be a bit short

http://www.howmachinery.com/fullview.cfm?ID=415 - 26 x 102" leblonde, in wisconsin rapids, decent guy, bought my 26" x 130" pacemaker from him.

My shop is up in Menomonee Falls
The Leblond is at the top of my list, i looked at it last week. Unfortunately, cold storage has taken a toll on the machine.

I have a friend in the Chicago suburban area with a large Polish lathe he would like to move. It would be a nice one. From what I recall, it is that big or bigger. Than what you are after. It will be in outstanding shape. Likely built in the late 80s. And purchased new by them. He was making 10’ long rollers for me when I worked at a different company.
you can PM me or contact me via rick(at)cogent-dynamics.com.

My pacemaker had the same thing, but I will say it was rather nice, after scrubbed up. And he was willing to deal... I paid $1800, with two steadies and a follower rest, chuck ect. I did haul it myself.
The price might justify a few days day of scrubbing and polishing.
