Hello, all,
I was just leafing on one of the 'threads' below, about rebuilding old Mausers, etc.
That got me to thinking about a project rifle I've had here for years and years that I've never got around to working on......a Winchester 1917 action in exceptionally nice condition, which was 'sporterised' by removal of the sight 'ears', but was not drilled for a scope mount. It presently has what looks like an 03A3 barrel on it, and a so-so but serviceable sporter stock.
My own idea was to set it up with a carbine length barrel, and open 'express' sights, to chamber 35 Whelen, something which would be convenient to carry in the truck, and would stop any of the local big wild pigs at close range.
It looks like I'm just never going to get around to working on this rifle, so if anyone in California might be interested, its for sale/trade. I collect older Winchester .22's (I serve as rangemaster at a couple of our local ranges here, and bring out the old .22's for young people to use, as they enjoy firing those more than firing the heavy target rifles used in our Rifle Club juniors programme), and would be interested in trading that '17 Winnie, plus some $$ as appropriate, for a nice pre-1957 Winnie .22 (or a nice Remington Model 12, for that matter)
Why pre-1957?. Its California law, sale/transfer of 'curio/relic list' long guns over 50 yrs old is exempt from their fascist 'DROS' process. I won't own a 'registered gun', but won't take any chances, either, hence pre-'57.
Anyway, if you can use a 17 action, fair market value, trade for pretty much anything I can actually use, whatever, as its just gathering dust here......give me an e-mail, [email protected]
