Bought and restored this one back in 2008, but the pictures were lost to Photobucket. New pics attached- might be interesting/helpful to those with new acquisitions surfacing.

Quite the restore! What prompted your choice of colors? I for one would like to see a current pic of the machine now that oil ect has had it's effect on her.

Had a fair bit of Jet equipment when I built that shop. Did the shop and all the equipment I redid at that time in those colors. Usually I'm a light machine gray or semi flat black kinda guy. Also did a Buffalo upright drill similarly- see link below.

Drill is gleaming and looks the same Dundee. Have a big Cincinnati and Cleereman that get used regularly. This one mostly just hangs out and shines.

You are big on red ball handles! :-)

As you know, I just acquired one of the same model. I have a question. Once you had everything broken free and cleaned up and lubricated, how hard is it to change steps with those vee belts? The main drive double vee belt has the big handle to loosen the tension but the feed just has the one handle to take it loose and then you have to muscle the lower cone pulley up to loosen the belt enough to change feeds.

cretedog, you really should go post pictures of your machine on vintagemachinery.org - they have one or two 22s but OMG yours is so much cleaner and mintier. And you can really see what's going on!

Now a painting question. Having painted the vee belt sheaves black, didn't the paint rapidly rub off of the insides of the cone pulley grooves once you started using it?

That is like cheating having your own large paint booth! I guess that's what it takes to get a museum-quality paint job like yours.

MM- The downfeed drive belt changes easily. Swing the ratchet feed handle straight down and get it out of your way and the lower step pulley mount moves up and down smoothly on machined ways. Be sure not to paint these ways in your resto. There is also an important relationship between the position of the rod that the ratchet handle locks onto, and the length and position of the lock handle for the lower downfeed step pulley. You need both positioned correctly so that the lock handle will clear the rod and lock the step pulley in place where it needs to be. I seem to remember having to play with that some when I redid mine.

Hey, cretedog, I thought of another question. What were the pillow block-type ball bearings like to deal with? Did you replace all the bearings? Can you tell us about how that went for you?

Don't believe I touched them. They turned smoothly so I just cleaned off the exteriors, painted them and gave them a shot of fresh grease.

Inspiring! I now want to get mine going. I am hunting for a part for the slow manual feed/auto feed

someone took the two bolts out and ran off with the handle, rod, gear, and support piece...
